4th gen Z28

There's a 4th gen Z28 for sale locally. AT, Convertible. About 100,000 miles. Any thoughts on what I'm look at if I were to buy it and plan on upgrading the Optispark, putting a catch can on it and new plugs and wires? It looks pretty clean inside and out, haven't looked in the engine bay.

Any telltale stuff to look for?

Since your saying optispark, I'm going to guess it's an lt1 year. Personally, I wouldn't even look at them and go more for a 98+ for the LS motor. **this coming from someone with a TPI motor in one of their cars.

To answer your question though, optispark will always be a huge pain in the ass for you. There are better aftermarket ones out there but it's going to be totally random when they go out and when they do, it's a pain in the ass. I wouldn't worry about a catch can either. Do a normal tune up.. plugs, wires, belts, fluids, filters, ect. With it being a Convertible, obviously check the rear window and around it for any holes where water could leak into it.

Thanks. It has a new roof. He may have already put in an aftermarket optispark, I’ll ask.

Then id just say to spend the $200 or so and give it a proper tune up. Mostly so YOU know when it's last been done and quality parts have been used.

Edit:

Idk how active the forum is, but check out camaroz28.com if you haven't already. It's a huge 4th Gen forum with tons of knowledge on there. If its happened, it's on CamaroZ28.com

You may want to check out Camaro5.com. Scroll on down and there's an entire section devoted to 4th Gens along with a market place. Your Camaro6 login SHOULD work.

TPI. I remember those torque monsters…. HP sucked but they were beautiful engines that’s for sure. I miss my third gen, one of my first cars. Always liked them. Someday it would be fun to do a LT transplant (or maybe LS) into a project 3rd gen car. Just hard to find a nice one.

Nothing wrong with a 95. Just needs a torqued head 24x conversion and a 411 pcm upgrade. Or LS swap it all together.

Don't know about the LT1's, but the LS1's for 98 and up had a terrible power steering fluid cooler design that was INLINE with the engine coolant - basically a pipe the engine coolant hoses attached to that contained a little heat exchanger inside for PS fluid. Guaranteed corrosion/leak. So you might want to check for some nasty looking coolant as a sign of that. (I ended bypassing it and putting in a proper PS fluid radiator down below).

If you buy it, camaroz28.com was already mentioned as a good resource, as well as
http://shbox.com

I've only had 5... 4th gens. Only one LT1 though, which I still have.
