Here are some pictures of what I came back to in the parking lot after just finishing a youth Soccer game that I coached. My brand new GMC Denali. I do not know how they did not hit me, how they were able to back so close to me. If they had a hitch on, it would of went right through my bumper. I was livid and of course I waited around to see who the person was and had a few choice words with this woman as soon as she walked to her truck. Surprisingly, she could not see the issue, imagine that.

I all seriousness though, I think people without nice cars are just clueless idiots. They have a beater and don't care, and don't comprehend why you do care.
I parked in my office parking lot out in the hinterlands (pre-covid). The folks that park out there are good about keeping distance from each other. Then one day I come out at lunch time and find this.

1. Reason is people are jerks that why

2. Some people do it because they know if you parked far away you won't ding their car(stupid I know but thats why some people do it)

It is annoying, only time I give people a pass is if you are taking up two spots. If you are taking up two spots then game on

Over the years ( decades ) I've come to this exact conclusion. In most cases people like that don't necessarily have beaters, rather, their vehicles, be they older or later models, are seen as conveyances and have the same placeholder as an appliance.

Over the same said years, I've had occasion to accost people here and there to comment on how poorly or inconsiderately they've parked. Mostly co-workers or acquaintances and I usually phrase it in a quasi-humorous b*ll-busty tone. There reactions are always as you say; they can't comprehend why it even matters. It's always this thoughtless, glib type of "what?". "What's the big deal? I just parked the car" as casually and mindlessly as they were to take a breath or blink their eyes. Their's is not the province of deep thoughts.

I try to park in the first space adjacent to the handicapped row at the grocery store. I place my tire as close as possible to the line on the handicap space. More than likely no one will park next to me on the handicap side, and the opposite side has a ton of space. I wouldn't advise this technique if there are only one or two handicap spaces, but when there's an entire, empty row the chances of a handicapped guy parking next to me are pretty remote.

Just had this happen to me yesterday. It’s a Walgreens so the parking lot is a bit smaller but the store entrance is almost on the other side of the building. There were so many free spots a hell of a lot closer

I have to park in a parking garage at work. So getting an end spot next to the wall is why I try to always get there early. There are 2 spaces between the walls next to the stairs which is my favorite. The other night some a-hole gets there first and takes up both spaces in a new Chevy Silverado. I was so irritated. It was all I could do to not go leave him/her a note saying “what a di*k move”. As employees we are required to park on the top 2 levels. So why make the limited number of spaces even less by doing this? Yeah people can really suck sometimes.

Agreed, that is the EXACT spot I would take, every time!!!

I literally have driven around parking lots multiple times picking various spots and then changing my mind... As a Professional Pilot, I am ALWAYS looking at "what COULD happen", so looking at shopping carts, parking lot slope, parking spot width amongst a plethora of other variables... At the end of the day, I usually just take my Sonata to the store, much less stressful...

My wife of 27 years thinks I'm nuts... My 9 year old, 87,000 mile Sonata doesn't have a single door ding... And it is my Daily Driver... My 2020 2SS (8 months old) is sitting in my garage, squeeky clean, under the car cover with 2,200 miles on it... Dent free... Safe & Sound from all the a**holes of the world...

My 9 year old, 87,000 mile Hyundai Sonata still looks pretty damn good... (these pictures are from this past April during "Covid Car Detailing Month" (wash, claybar, compound, polish, IPA wipe, Adam's 9h Ceramic Coat and Adam's Ceramic Boost)) (the car under the car cover in the reflection of the door of my Sonata is my 2020 Shadow Gray Metallic 2SS...) (I grew up working in a Paint & Body Shop... Thanks Dad for the experience and knowledge to make cars look great! (RIP)...)
