Now you pay $60000 to $100000 for new and what’s it going to be worth in 30 years? Factor in the $500 a year to insure and another $100 a year to plate = $600 year x 30 years is another $18000. Not including any maintenance, gas and space in garage so it can just sit. To me it’s just not a good investment. That said, its neat that they did them.
And no one thought the 2005/2006 Ford GT's would be worth anything either. They were what? $150k before taxes? Now they go for nearly double that.

It's honestly all about how other people perceive a vehicle and that's where it'll gain value in the coming years. The ZL1 I can see but the Z06, eh.

Years after the Pontiac 2009 G8 GXP was released, it was (and maybe still is) holding it's value. ~$44k when new and that's what people were asking for it years after. Though I do not know what the Chevy SS did to it value.

It does cost money/time to store/up keep vehicles that you're not going to drive but hey, that's all about it. Most people kinda do it because they love that vehicle and want that vehicle, no matter what they have to do to keep it. If you're Jay Leno and have the money, you'll do it exactly for this reason. Maybe have a couple that you could sell for extra money in the future but most of them because you are a true car person.

He’s not. But the comparison in general is valid. No one knows what car specifically will have collector value. But a limited availability, special edition with provenance has proven to be more likely than most others. And the car in question fits that bill.

I don't recall people not thinking the 05/06 GTs were not going to be collector cars.

I think a big part people are missing with these examples is that the Shelbys, Ford GTs etc have factory or factory racing connections/heritage etc. Comparing those cars to a car with stickers on it and off the shelf mods anyone can get is apples to oranges IMO. The only thing it really sort of has going for it is the Hendrick angle. The 1 of 24 means nothing to me and a lot of other people. I could put some stickers on my car, have it modded by some race team connection and say 1 of 1! It's a future collectible.....

LOL at “off the shelf mods”. A bigger supercharger and tune are hardly “off the shelf”. Not even close.

I talked to a guy at our big car show here last year that had two Hertz "executive" supercharged Mustangs. Pretty cool, but yeah, the color scheme...

You’re right those are super hard to acquire/ultra rare mods, it should be 100k.

No don’t want them, what does that have to do with anything? Only things I’ve ever really modded is exhaust, wheels, suspension and brakes (especially under warranty). Then spend the money on consumables track time etc.

I guess we'll just have to wait 20 to 30 years and see how much 1 of these goes for.

This Hertz ZL1 isn't something that was made available to the public, until now. So you mean to say that the ZL1 doesn't have a factory race connection? Strange for someone to say that...I guess the ZL1 is just a regular, non history car like a Camry.

The ZL1 is just a regular car; a fast one, but still a mass produced car....don't think I'd compare it to a camry though lol.

Im trying to stat that the fact that the ZL1 has a racing heritage, a racing history. Much like a Z/28 does or the Ford GT or any Shelby.

Not sure if this is aimed at me or not. I never said the Camaro, ZL1 or GM for that matter didn’t have factory race connections or heritage for that matter. But, they don’t have nearly what Ford/Shelby do with the GT350/GTs etc. Even non race fans know the Shelby name and have no idea what a ZL1 version of a Camaro is for example.

Anybody with a wallet/credit card can do what Hertz did and it really is nothing special. In these crazy high horsepower times, 750 isn’t even that much anymore. Here is the website if you want it in your own car. It just isn’t that special IMO because it is easily replicated on your own if you want to do it and the reasons stated above.
