Rear diff leaking
I noticed some oil splatters on my bumper. So i got under and it looks like the rear diff is leaking, possibly from the passenger side axle seal or sensor. Has anyone else had any issues like this? I cleaned it up, so I'm gonna see what it looks like tomorrow.

i see the possible leak area but more so what happen to the electrical connector in the pic it looks like it got hot or has melted in some way also looks like the wire sheathing may be melted. go make some left hand turns and see if you can tell where its comming from if its a seal. if its a line, after you clean it up and drive it you may be able to spot it. If you havent noticed any dripping on your driveway it leads me to believe that it only happens when you drive so. Clean it up really well, Check your diff fluid to see if you can notice or tell how much if any is missing and drive it to get a better handle on it. Keep us posted it is an interesting case.

also look at the pic, the wire loom cover has oil on it like it is running down it and there is some puddling around the wire holder it looks like.or maby not its hard to tell so it looks to be coming from higher possibly

man thats a tough diagnosis gonna be hard to tell due to the axel spinning and slinging the leak everywhere... So any dripping at all on the driveway?

its gotta be comming from on top just due to the way the oil is distributed in the pic

argh, nobody seems to sell the fluid around here (Paso Robles, CA) on the weekends. I'm out of town, so i might have to wait until Monday to get some fluid so I can get home.

that sux. keep us posted when you find out what it is leaking. its this kind of information that makes this forum great for researching problems and then the OP post the actual problem and fix for it. makes diagnosing our own cars easier.

Pretty much any 75W-90 gear oil will do just to get it home, whatever's in there now will be coming out anyway.

Dealer said there was a differential carrier bolt that was loose. They sealed and torqued it, so hopefully it's good now.

Glad you got it fixed. Hopefully that takes care of it.
Looks like there’s 2 different oils for our diff. OEM part number is 88862624. That’s the one that’s hard to find. There’s a similar 1#88862624. Bottle looks almost the same except the 1# part number bottle doesn’t say GL5 on it. Both carry the same ACDELCO number 10-4034. I wonder if there’s a difference? |
