Opening the door with physical key

I was working on adding an intake and accidentally locked myself out with the battery unplugged, didn’t wanna plug it in as I had the MAF sensor out and was having trouble with the bolt to put it in.

So I tried the physical key I saw some have to use when they were locked out, and it didn’t work. I put the video showing how I was trying to unlock, maybe I’m stupid and doing it wrong but is there a chance I don’t have the correct key?

The car was bought from an auction at 61k and only 1 key included, been using this key since with no issues but never tried the physical key till now

I've done it before, but I don't understand why it wouldn't work if you bought the car new from the dealer with a cut key.

There is a good chance that they didn't have the original keys and they bought a replacement key FOB and the key that is in the FOB is not cut correctly.

Well I think you hit it right on the head, I forgot that the auction classified it as a repo so it makes sense now.

Now onto seeing if it’s worth getting an actual key made or possible

I'm sure a dealer can get a key cut from the VIN, but it won't be cheap.

You can actually rebuild the cylinder to match the key if the dealer route of cutting the key is too expensive. Just need a wafer kit like this one: https://www.clksupplies.com/collecti...g-kit-a-23-103

Those kits can be found for cheaper on ebay and other sites, just using that link as an example because the description is pretty well put together. Anything that work with lock cylinder part number 13590041 will work. This door lock cylinder has been used on a ton of different GM vehicle since at least the early 2010s so parts should be easy to find. At first glance the site I linked seems to be the correct one but you'd want to confirm before buying.

I've used my key with no problem. Are you putting the key in the hole and then turning it.Try the passenger side door. Maybe the car was hit and door was replaced.

OP mentioned that the car was classified as a repo by the auction he bought it from, so chances are whoever prepped the vehicle for sale just bought a fob online and didn't bother matching the key to the cylinder.

I'll take a look at the dealer route and the wafer, I have a feeling it'll be too much dough for me. I don't mind much, ordered another remote and two blank keys off eBay for cheap just in case.

I will also try the passenger door tomorrow just in case, if that works then it may be time to take a closer look at the vehicle history lol

For what it's worth, the dealer will use your one working FOB to program your new FOB(s). I had it done. An extended warranty covered the cost 100%.
