Added Console Pocket with iPhone Cable
Well, I find it awkward to open the console, fish out a cable, connect it to the phone, and then have no place to put the phone.
So, I picked up a plastic console pocket from an auction site, and wrapped it in the same pleather I used to cover my knee pads. Then, I routed a black lightning cable out from the console through the hinge opening in the console lid, and out the passenger side. I routed it behind the side flap of the console and into my pocket. I used 3M double sided tape to locate and fix it to the console. Much easier to access, takes up very little space, and it even works on an iPad [just not as well due to size]. Since first posting this I remounted the pocket so it is in line with the top of the console and not slanted. Last edited by mrtoner; 03-23-2017 at 10:51 PM. Reason: Add details |

I poked a stiff wire down through there, and it came right out from under the side. I routed the charging cable through, opened and closed the lid and there is no interference whatsoever. |

Thanks for the tip on these. After I read this thread yesterday I ordered a pair of these from Amazon. They are awesome for my large iPhone and a great fit in the car. I also followed your lead a bit by routing the Lightning cable out the back and in to a hole I drilled in the rear of the pocket. Glad to see you still doing helpful mods for the community. I remember you from the Corvette forum.
Anyone looking for a direct link to the product, you can find it here on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Paul |
