ZLE possibly sitting through winter conditions

Is it worth taking delivery of a car that sits on an open lot during winter conditions?

Will there be any issues with rust since the Great Lakes are nearby?

I read in a separate thread on here that they are not even covered.

I live in Los Angeles and was able to get this car for a pretty good deal (5k markup). Regular ZL1s are going for a 10k markup. Was second in line and dealer was upfront and told me it would be at least a 6 month wait, but I was lucky enough to get the car allocated to me and built right away. The car was built 10/15. So it’s been sitting there for a month now.

Dealer reached out to the factory yesterday and they said they are having logistics issues. The order was placed as sold so it will be marked hot (what does that mean?) and will be placed on the priority list.

Any info/feedback would be helpful.

Hey there,

I personally wouldn’t worry about it, especially that it’s been built recently. I would however make sure to have your dealer inspect the 4 tires prior to you taking ownership. The ZLE tires will crack in very cold temperatures, in which case GM would have to replace them at their expense.

Hot Ship will mean they will ship it ASAP. Just happened with my CTS V, they called and added it for Hot Ship, and it was here the next day. Im 300 miles from LGR. That should be a good thing for you.

As long as the car isn't driven on a salted road, I wouldn't worry about rust, if it simply gets snowed on, not an issue... It is the salt on the underbody that wreaks havoc on cars... (from someone who lived in Chicago for 43 years and worked in the Autobody industry growing up)...

Your ZLE needs to be trucked the entire way. No train. They need a full load headed your way before it will ship.

I can’t imagine thinking $5000 ADM is a “good” deal. Eesh

These are made in Michigan, so they’re immediately subjected to whatever the weather is when they leave the factory and there’s nothing one can do to avoid that. This includes whatever weather the carrier ends up driving through. This has been the case for all Camaros since 1993 when production moved to Canada through 2015. “It is what it is” - I’d be more concerned with paying ADM than I would the weather conditions.

I agree that on delivery they and you need to carefully inspect the tires. It's the cold yes but also, worse, is being driven in the cold, it's the flexing of the rubber on the road. Otherwise I think you're safe. Also look at the manuf date codes on the tires to see if they're "new".
