2018 ZL1 getting Trans rebuild at 15k
Just got the call today I’m getting a rebuild on my transmission from GM under factory warranty. From what I can tell this is pretty uncommon with these transmissions. Anyone else have issue with theirs early on?

What's the cost of a rebuild vs. replacement?
I would probably opt to replace it altogether. I have not heard of this yet and I'm assuming your car is automatic? |

Damn, 15k! What issues have you been noticing? Any idea how this car was treated before you purchased it?

No idea. It was a 1-owner with 12k I purchased in January. That comes out to 3k miles a year so I would assume the owner before was either a track rat or it was a weekend driver. I’m not paying for it, so I don’t have a choice what they do to fix the issue. I’ve posted on several forums lately about the rough shifts I’ve been having under light acceleration. This is the 2nd time in 2 months. Last time they replaced “gaskets, valve body, solenoids, and fluids.” I assumed that was about all that was involved in a “rebuild”. Apparently there is more they can do to fix before replacement. Obviously if it was up to me I would take a new 10l90 and be done with it.

Update: I have received no new information in 18 days.. par for the course these days I guess. I have however received 2 different emails one from pre owned sales and one from the general sales manager basically offering to buy back my car.. in exchange for a like vehicle…

But a rebuild or replacement of a ZL1 A10 on a stock car is pretty uncommon unless you're beating the crap out of it every drive. Even then, the dedicated ZL1 track cars are doing good on their transmission, as far as I know. |

As to the former.. that’s the joke. They don’t have a car to offer me. They want to put me in some bs and get my ZL1 with a fresh trans and sell it for $70k. And to the latter.. I’m well aware of those standards and as I’ve previously stated I’ve never even launched the car or tracked it.. much less “beat the hell out of it” in the 3k miles I’ve owned it. I find it comical they’ve held my car now for a total of 5 weeks (this visit) 3 weeks on the last for the same issue.. and they are just trying to wiggle out of a new trans every was possible. I hate to say it but this is probably the last GM vehicle I ever buy unless things DRASTICALLY change

It’s situations like this that make me question why I even bother keeping the warranty. If I blow the motor or trans how many hoops would I have to jump through to get it replaced? Your experience is a great example of the shit dealers put you through to try to weasel their way out of paying. Is it even worth it? Might as well pulley it down and tune it on E85. YOLO
Good luck man. I hope they get your car fixed soon.

6 weeks since drop off. 4 weeks since last heard from dealer, called yesterday for update was told my tech wasn’t available and only he would know, left number for call back. Never got call back. I’ve created a case with GM, not really sure what that will do if anything. Feeling pretty defeated with GM overall. If they can stretch me out for 6 weeks for no consequence, what’s to say they can’t for 6 months?

Pure is the only option I’ve considered but that’s a bitter pill to swallow considering I have coverage until 100k/2028. I know some on the forum might not agree with the way this sounds but I got a warranty for the sole reason of not having to worry about repairs during the duration of me making payments
