Driveline Clunk

I have a 2011 SS M6, and when shifting 1st to 2nd I can feel a clunk after I push the clutch in. It only happens 1st to 2nd, and it feels like it's coming from behind the driver seat. Anybody have this problem, or know of anything that could cause something like this? Car has a brand new clutch, throw out bearing, etc.

Thanks

Unlikely with a stock setup, but check rear differential bushing for movement.

I'll look and see, the car has about 120xxx miles on it, and the previous owners were not very gentle lol. I wouldn't be surprised if it's got movement

Rear subframe (cradle) bushings are really soft to begin with in 2010 and 2011s. M6 cars that have been driven hard are going to be REALLY soft by 120k miles. I recommend a solid bushing for the cradle, and a poly bushing for the diff. It will CHANGE the car, clutch takeup becomes much cleaner and smoother, the car will shift nicer, the car will respond smoothly the throttle inputs. One of the mods I've done that I like the most - and I recommend for any M6 car.

Here is a pretty telling video for just how much those things move around.

Solid is pricey, but the video does not lie. I wonder how a hard durometer poly would do. I mean the billet allows no movement at all. I’d imagine better on the diff since it’s not moving all around

im almost 99% sure that its your motor mounts. mine had the exact same symptoms and i went ape shit going through the entire rear drivetrain and suspension without finding anything. it drove me nuts.

then one day when changing the sparkplugs, i noticed that the driver side of the engine cover had wear marks where it had been rubbing up and down on the shield of my aftermarket cai. so i decided to order (2) new ZL1 mounts and a stock TR6060 mount from the dealer. did the motor mounts and problem solved. i did the trans mount afterwards for good measure.

I never thought about motor mounts, I'll have to check those as well. I definitely think the trans mount is wore out, seems like the shifter bounces a lot over rough roads. Like I said, the car was rode hard, so theres no telling what all needs replacing.

Also, since I've been paying more attention to it, I've noticed that the clunk/thud gets harder and louder the more throttle your giving it. If you really try to bang through the 1-4 gears, it's much more noticeable.
