It's actually opposite of this: Manufacturers have lobbied for 91/93 to be the "minimum" (realistically the only) pump gas available. This would be a huge emissions/efficiency/performance enabler for the fleet. All engines would be deigned to run higher compression and it'd be easier to meet corporate fuel economy requirements using the improved thermal efficiency to down-size engines and maintain customer required performance.

If the EPA was serious about efficiency and emissions, this'd be a no-brainer...

I'll Stick with 91 Premium , I wouldn't even consider anything less , If I could find 93 Premium, I would use that. Good news for the day I won a 40 " TV today

I run 93 octane in my ZL1 and will continue to do so but if the Op wants to use 87 in his SS then more power to him and good luck!

OP, it is ok if you want to neuter your personal LT1's output and run it on the ragged edge to save a few bucks, but please do not promote that nonsense here. King and dozens of other invaluable forum members know very well that an OEM LT1 can barely provide max power on pump 93 octane without knock. These engines run their best tuned on e85. Not sure if you are looking for an achievement award or recognition for keeping an octane starved LT1 alive for so long, but please don't cast your web of delusions upon the rest of the forums.

Premium costs about $0.50 - $0.75 more than 87 octane where I am but I’d rather have the peace of mind in the SS.

I bought a new 21 and the sales guy filled it with 87 octane.
the 500 mile drive home sucked because it was knockin' like a bitch even under moderate throttle.

got to half a tank a filled it with Chevron 93
the rest of the drive home was better with the diluted mix of 90ish octane

LT1's are not for the poors...
