I’m a little late to the party on this but with 5mm spacers I was only able to get 5.5 turns on my lug nut with Apex wheels. Less than the recommended 7 minimum. For $65 and a pretty easy install I wouldn’t take a chance.

thanks for the detailed answers.
I agree some of that lap times improvement over the G3s might be a result of the confidence with the R comps but think of this way, it's also easier to reach the lmits with OEM/street tires than with the stickier tires and so you may improve your lap times even further with the G3Rs So 3.8 seconds improvement is still huge improvement even on a 2.5 minute course.

Since the last post (10/19/17) but our now 1LE-departed buddy, glamcem, has anyone else ran a G3R on a regular ZL1 or SS 1LE to see what they think of wear rates, lap time improvements, comparision to other tires (Hoosier R7, NT01, MPSC2, RE71R) that they may have experience with? Running my first HPDE tomorrow since last November and am curious as I may try other tires out this year (19").

I've only driven them on a ZL1 1LE. Overall grip is somehwhere about equal to a Trefeo R. In fact, I'm pretty sure all Goodyear did was try and build a copy of the Trefeo R. More grip than a RE71R/NT01/PSC2, less than a R7. They take a while to build heat (more like a true slick), but once they do... they stick really well and don't fall off like over a 20-25 minute session. They do wear faster than an RE71R/PSC2/NT01 though.

Further to Provoste's response wrt the G3Rs:

1 - I've run stocker G3s, Cup2s and RE71Rs and don't believe there is much difference in pace between these tires imo. Moreover given wear rates and price G3s are a clear winner as a dual purpose tire at about $1000USD for a set. There simply isnt another tire of this performance level at this price anywhere else.

2 - if you want a guaranteed pace increase (2-3 seconds range?) and you dont mind swapping wheels at a track then a simplest and cheapest option is Pirelli slick take offs on 18 wheels. That's the option I'd pick in a heart beat. Unfortunately I live N of the border and hence logistics and costs are against my wallet. But I don't fret as my 1le is faster on stockers vs my C5Z on NT01s and that's good enuf for this old dog...

3 - unless you're after a specific tire (like Cem was regarding NT01s) then there is not much to recommend going with 19 wheels.

Cheers!

I am back now I have a 19 SS 1LE and am planning to get 19x11 and 19x12" wheels (Apex ARC8 ZLE fitment) soon. Are you still using these wheels and tires?

Yes but I have multiple sets with different tires (G3R, RE71R, and R7's).

Cool no fitment/rubbing issues with R7s? And what sizes?

I have some plans for the upcoming season and want to try RRs, new Nankang AR1s and R888Rs.

315's up front are just barely wider than G3R 305's. 345 rears are slightly wider than 325 G3R's. They rub slightly on the inner fender liners. Maybe a 3mm spacer would clear that up. Stock rear studs give you 14mm engagement. With any spacer, you are below what I prefer (14mm). I may pull the wheel bearings and swap studs. FYI, the A7 / R7 325 is smaller width than a G3R 325. This set is my first set of new Hoosier's. I've only done one track day on them. They are faster by about 2-seconds at Eagles Canyon's 2.7-mile track vs.the G3R's with quicker warm up by about a lap. However, they overheat quicker than the G3R's and that was on a 60F ambient day!

Unless you need the edge for a time trial event, I don't see how, for HPDE's, the Hoosiers are worth the significant amount more (over G3R's) especially in the 315 / 345 19" sizes which are around $100 per tire each more than a 315/30/18.
