Just to be clear, they are all carbon fiber.

One is carbon fiber that has a clear coat so you can see the fiber. This is called “exposed carbon fiber” and you pay extra for this option.

One is carbon fiber that is painted black.

The pic below shows the exposed carbon fiber version.
The black one is just ... black.

Wow that’s interesting to know! I didn’t realize they were both carbon fiber but only one was exposed....thats a cool “Easter egg”...

I was wondering what “Exposed” meant on my window sticker. My first thought was, aren’t all ZL1’s exposed?

Now I know, Thanks!

Also, If I’m not mistaken, I think this statement in the manual may be more referenced towards the SS heat extractors, but I could be wrong.

The best paint care solution for the heat extractor is self-healing PPF with a durable hydrophobic coating on top. Remove the emblems (after making a template), then remove the heat extractor and wrap/tuck PPF so there are no visible seams. Pic at the bottom.

FWIW, the paint on the painted heat extractor is WA506B Mosaic Black Metallic, the same as the splitter, grille, and side rockers on the non-1LE ZL1 models.

Not to be confused with WA8555 Black.

I just removed the 'ZL1' emblems from my 2020 Mosaic Black Metallic hood. I got the residual faint outline of the tape off with denatured alcohol.

Then I used ZAINO polish on the entire hood extractor. Looks much better in my opinion.

I removed the emblems and had PPF installed. Cost me $100, well worth it for peace of mind!
