How to remove bug splatter and bird bombs from your paint without scratching

I though this would be a good topic with summer just around the corner.

If you drive your car more than you detail it, it's inevitable your going to get bug splatter and bird bombs on the paint.

Hopefully, you have a good coating or sealant on your paint to prevent etching.
I'm going to assume with all the threads on these that you do.

You'll need two things, detail spray/waterless wash, and a long knap Korean microfiber towel.

Don't do this in direct sunlight, get the car in the garage or shade first.

Here's a spot of bug splatter on the hood of my Camaro. (1st pic)

I'm going to spray the towel on one side with detail spray, in this application, I used Adams detail spray, but any one will work.(2nd pic).

Then lay the towel with the side you sprayed on the area to be cleaned, and spray the other side as well on top of the area. Pat (don't wipe) the wet area after letting the towel sit for a minute or two. You'll notice how the knap is matted down. (pic 3)

Then lift up to see if any remains, sometimes you''ll need to repeat to get everything off. Long knap towels pick up stuff better. This towel I'm using is a Rag Co Everest 1100, but any long knap will do.

The only thing that will be left is a little excess detail spray. (pic 4)

Use the clean part of the towel to get the remaining product off the surface, you can pat it, or slowly drag with no pressure across the area.

As you can see it's gone, no etching, no scratching.(pic 5)

This whole process took me 3 minutes.

I came out of work yesterday to have a bird bomb on my car, took the rinseless detailer out with a soft MF towel, did the same thing, a little pat with the towel, cleaned right up and no scratches.

The bird bombs are the worst for scratching if wiped.

Glad you were able to pat it up without causing any marring!

I saw someone today wiping one off in a parking lot in direct sunlight with a paper towel on a black car.

Oh jeez...paper towel is a big no no! They big key too is to try and get it off as quickly as possible and not let it sit on the car too long.

I use a pump high pressure sprayer filled with waterless to blast the bird bomb away. Then I blot with the Korean 70/30 edgeless TRC Eagle!

Here's the process using same procedure with a bird bomb. Since the car's surface was cool and had the morning dew on it, removal was easier vs. dried bird bomb.

Nasty stuff (1st pic)

RC Everest 1100 towel with UWW plus for removal (2nd pic)

Same process, turn spray nozzle to stream and soak a section of the towel just a little bigger then the spot. Lay towel on top of spot, soak other side, then gently pat, don't rub or wipe.(3rd pic)

Lift the towel to remove it. 99% of it is gone, if you look close there are just a couple specks of it left. Flip towel to clean side and blot the specs up. (4th pic)

Lastly, get the towel in the washer ASAP. This towel is currently in the washer as I type!

I just get a damp microfiber towel and wipe the front end down after driving the car, then go back over it with a spray detailer and a dry MF towel. No scratches ever.
