Just tried rinseless for the first time

With this weird and nice weather going on up here (it's currently 67 degrees as I'm writing this) I decided to try to do rinseless since my car look a little dirty after the snow and rain here last week. Talk about global warming or not depending on how you feel about it Anyways, took me around 30 mins to clean the whole car and I think it looks pretty good. After seeing the results, will be doing rinseless from now on. Also, do you guys have any recommendation on products to clean the wheels and tires?

PS: sorry for the long post. I also didn't use any sealant. Suggestions are also welcome. Thanks!

Rinseless is a great way to wash the car, as long as you use the right technique. Glen on here has a great write up that you find on his signature if you have any questions.

Do you not have any protection (sealant, wax, etc) on the car currently?

For wheels, my go to is usually Adam's Wheel Cleaner

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...f36f0c3450455e

If you coat them with a quality product like CarPro HydrO2, they will be much easier to clean!

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...eae3f5ec642d80

For tires, you can usually get away with using a solid All Purpose Cleaner with a Tire Brush. Then you can protect them with Adam's VRT or CarPro PERL

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...e9678f98a92472

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...354a2fd627e813

Hope this helps!

Lots of information. Thanks!

No, I don't have protection on it yet partly because I don't know which products to use and how to use it. I was planning on doing research more about it before I go crazy haha

Chances are you will go crazy after starting your research.

Basic breakdown in terms of protection from most durable to least.

1 vinal wrap total car, or clear bra, expel on the usual areas.

2 ceramic coatings.

3 Polymer sealants.

4 conventional wax.

It can be a blackhole. Let me know if you have any specific questions about coatings. Its all I use anymore.

Wheel Cleaner: I use SudzBox Crimson for the rims. Awesome stuff! If your wheels are only a little dirty you can use this as a spray and rinse. For the tires, just an all purpose cleaner from them too. There is a link in my SIG for their products.

Also, their Tire Dressing is BOMB diggity. Its called Shadow. You can use this for plastic, vinyl and the plastic trim interior spots too. Also can be accessed through the link.

If you end up getting one of these, let me know what you think.

I thought so! So What exactly is the difference in coatings and sealant and do you really need wax?

Coatings are not perfect. They can get swirled up just like the clear coat. They still require the basic care to not swirl it up. However, like Mike Phillips says, the coating is the sacrificial lamb. If you want to put protection on the car and pretty much forget about it, a coating is the way to go.

I put Opti Gloss Coat on mine, but I like to rub on my beloved, so I am going to polish off the coating in the Spring and go back to conventional sealant and wax. I like how different combinations of sealants and waxes can make the paint look different: wet, deep, metallic popping, etc. I like to spend time with my car.

Kirk is correct here. Coatings can be damaged, but they can also be somewhat repaired as well, if slightly swirled. They are certainly for someone who has little time, or many cars to fit into their tight weekends. If you like to touch the paint a lot, and try different things, coatings are not the way to go. I prefer them as I have a tight schedule, and work a lot of weekends as well.

Did someone write I love you on the hood of your car through the dirt? That's a good way to scratch up paint.

Glens docs are well put together, well written, and I greatly value his opinion and input.
I am completely coating specific these days, but can attest that his write ups for the products that he uses are very good, but cover a different group of LSP.

The blackhole can be greatly diminished in the world of coatings by staying synergistic with a single product line, or by asking questions. I have greatly narrowed down my product line by to very simple system of products I feel work great for me. Here is my list.

Correction heavy - Menzerna FG400

Correction med to light - Car Pro essence, which is also my primer for coatings

Coating - Kamikaze Miyabi Coat, topped with their Infinity wax if desired.

Coating correction for small blemishes, or later in its life to extend it if needed - Car Pro Essence Plus.

Waterless, Rinseless, Detailer- Car Pro Ech2o

Traditional wash- Gyeon Bathe+

Aside from being super OCD with microfiber and polishing pads which is a complete different subject, that is my arsenal, with an exception of left over products to be used up.

I gave away everything else to my friends, waxes, sealants etc.

The key is to try to keep it simple right off the bat, and decide which one of the LSP's meet your criteria, IE don't buy a bunch of high quality waxes, then move to sealants, and then to coatings. I already have done that and spent too much. The key is to decide the LSP right off the bat.
