Launching and shifting the A8 at the track

Hi all. Now that I have switched to an A8 I have a couple of questions before I bring it to the track later this week.

How are you launching? What mode? Foot on brake and load it up, or just mash it from idle?

How are you shifting? Leave it in drive and let it do it’s thing or do you use the paddles? Do the different modes change what RPM and how hard/fast it will shift?

Sorry I am sure these questions have been answered before but I can’t find anything specific for a car that is FI and running a drag pack.

What works best for you? Thanks!

(A8 with MRC, procharged, drag pack, full weight.)

off idle they say to go WOT. Laynlo should be able to give you much more accurate information.

1. Burnout in 2nd
2. Get into either sport or track mode.
3. Be sure to override the suspension mode and put it into tour.
4. Double tap the traction control button to get it into competition/competitive mode.
5. Leave at an idle.
6. Let the computer shift. If you try to manually shift 1-2..you will most likely fail.

I've been meaning to start a thread to see if anyone locked in a different suspension setting. ((Mag ride))

I have heard that if you have street tires, you should drive around the water box and skip the burnout, or only do a quick burnout to clean the tires (after driving around the water box). Is this what you mean, or do the stock tires (Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3's) do better with a full burnout?

Also, with stock tires, would you recommend lowering the rear tire pressure, and if so, what tire pressure would you recommend?

Thanks for your help!

I’m also curious if anyone has had luck with using the paddles on the A10. I’ve run in auto but I’ve been getting a 12.8.

The only things I would change is do the burnout in 3rd gear. 2nd gear is still only 2.97

And don't double tap the traction control button. Press and hold it for 5 seconds. That way it turns off all the nannies.

You can 60 harder with a slight brake torque or a timed slight flash. Completely off idle works but I’ve got the lowest 60 brake torquing to about 1200

Dan have you actually tried 3rd and stock gears? Sounds good just wondering if it would have enough to break the tires loose effectively. Will the computer even let you start in 3rd?

You're exactly right. Stock tires go around the water box and a quick burnout to clean off any debris. At my local track, I wouldn't even bother with stock tires. DR's at a minimum. Just too dangerous.

Highest gear it will let you start off is 2nd. So you would have to put it in manual mode and put in 2nd and then after you break the tires lose, manually shift into 3rd.

In previous cars, I always got best results doing a burnout in 2nd gear. Gearing wise, our second gear is most transmissions 1st gear, and our 3rd is more like a second.

I cant say I tried it with stock gearing...... I'm having waaaayyyy too much fun with these 3.73s. Lol

Cool

I just been trying to avoid shifting during burnout after a tranny explosion I heard about. I’ll try only 2nd as well as 2nd to 3rd. The extra wheel speed of 3rd will be nice I agree it’s probably better than 2nd
