I have some drag radials in 275/40-17 and my SS has done some weird stuff with this size on back and some 245/40-20 front tires. Finally got to try some 26" diameter front tires for my most recent trip to the dragstrip and the computer seems happier with them. My suggestion for your drag pack is to use a front tire that is as close in diameter to those rears as you can.

A 255/45/17 front puts you very close to the same diameter, and a little less than an inch less in width. If you are running that rear tire then that’s what I would go with.

You may have traction issues though. That rear tire comes in around 25.7 inches which is pretty short and I’m betting you will likely have a hard time with your 60 foot because of it. Typically with the auto you want a 28” tire from what I have read and tried myself. Let us know how it works out.

BFGoodrich g-force sport comp-2 tires come in 215/50/17

That's a 25.51" tall tire, so it shouldn't mess with your ABS with your 275/40/17s

it's also almost as "skinny" as you can get on a 7.5" wheel. It won't fit on an 8" wheel

I tried some 315-35r17 Hoosiers on my 17 ss. Car dead hooked on a unpreped track but it computer did not like it. Messed with the anti lock and traction control. Turning off traction control fixed that but had to live with the antilock brakes cycling after a run, more of a annoyance then anything.

The OP has a turbo 4 cylinder with 329 lb/ft of torque. My thinking is he'll probably be ok with a 275/40-17 drag radial. I say that because I've recently used such a tire on my SS with a supercharger, on the same track he will be running on. My supercharger is a centrifugal, so it does not hit particularly hard off the line with the stock torque converter, but still it has done 1.6 short times on the few runs that I've made so far with a drag pack and the supercharger this summer. Possibly a harder hit (from an aftermarket converter or a positive displacement/screw blower) might require a taller sidewall on an SS.

Went with the 245/45/17 for the front hoping to get to the dragstrip this week and work into the 12s and in the fall hopefully low 12s.

I'm putting down 296whp/352wtq right now and that was after 2hrs. of dyno and road tuning in 80 degree mildly humid weather. I'm averaging 13.2 to 13.3s passes over the past 3 track visits so I'm really interested to see what going from a 20" street tire to a 17" DR will do. Also the individual wheel weight difference is just over 20lbs. Less in the rear.
