Anyone drive their 1LE year-round in snowy states?
Considering picking up a 1LE, but do not have room for three cars. I live in MN, where we get plenty of snow and harsh winters. So, the 1LE would be driven year-round when necessary.
Proper winter wheel/tire setup is a given, I am just curious how others have fared with this car in the winter (ground clearance, availability of winter wheels/tires, etc...)? |

I am in Wisconsin, no chance this car would make it in winter here. Just way to low. If you are always on plowed streets then no problem but I do country driving with snow drifts. They would destroy the front end

You sure this is a 1LE, the 1LE has 6 piston red calipers that are considerably larger than the standard 4 piston Brembo caliper the SS uses. That is going to limit the wheel selection some as to what you can run. |

I live in the city, and we have the wife's X3 for the bad stuff. Just need to be able to get around town when needed. I currently drive a GTI and previously had an M3 with winters, so I can't imagine the 1LE would be much different.

Daily drive mine in Michigan, and have driven my last two 5.0s year round as well. I went out and purchased a new smaller set of 19" wheels for a winter setup and re-used a basically new set of winter tires from my Mustang (245/45/19) Sticking with that size my speedo is barely off and have had zero issue with driving in the cold/snow. All of that being said, I live in a very urban area and never have to deal with significant amounts of snow (had it out in 4-5 inches this year max). I could see clearance being an issue if you're in an area that doesnt get plowed quickly. For availability of winter setups, there are several wheels that will fit (just be careful of them fitting over the brakes) as well as tires. I went with some dunlops and they are awesome. I have blizzaks on my wife's Charger RT and honestly cant tell the difference. As far as the wheels are concerned, I am pretty sure we share the same bolt pattern as BMWs so there are several options....I got lucky and picked up a set of TSW Nurburgering wheels that were originally intended for a BMW.....guy backed out on them so I got like 30% off. My second option was buying a used set of 5th gen camaro ss wheels and winter tires. Locally several sets were available. I would think finding a setup that works would be super easy.

Should have my 1LE SS in a couple of weeks and I already have the winter tires/wheels ordered and ready to put on. I wouldn't drive in deep snow but plowed roads should be fine here in Michigan. I purchased wheels with 20 mm offset so they should clear the brakes. If we ever get Winter here I'll let you know how it handles.

I drove mine in snow with Pirelli PZero Nero all seasons while in Snow/Ice mode. There's no issue with traction, the problem is clearance. Driving in fresh snow is fine, the car can sort it all out. However, once the snow freezes overnight, there are frozen grooves/ruts in smaller roads that aren't plowed as often. I'm pretty we don't have enough clearance for those frozen ruts. On that day, my wife dropped me off at the bus station in her Honda Odyssey. Even the van scraped on some of that frozen snow.

If you have a car you can use for the really bad snowfall, you'll be fine. If you have to attempt to drive on more than 6 inches of un-plowed you will be the one plowing the snow for everyone else.
