Weird exhaust shit

So I have a v6 camaro and I’m doing a straight pip on it but I noticed a valve in the middle of the exhaust not doing anything but it has a spring holding it shut. However because the straight pipe it’s floating open and vibrates and makes an annoying noise. I’m considering welding it open or cuting it out but does anyone know what the purpose of the valve is (it’s not an npp exhaust)

AFM valves. Active Fuel Management valves, when it switches to 4 cylinder mode. My guess but I could be wrong.

If that were the case, the valve would be stuck open and act like straight dumps....

OP's username is a perfect Taco Bell match, too Alas, my serious mood all but turned into vapor the moment I saw "straight pip".

Sorry OP, promise I won't troll further into your thread.

My guess is that your straight pipe setup would benefit from a resonator to take the edge off of the rasp without hurting performance.
Would this also require the AWE AFM simulator?

the spring activated afm valves do not throw codes nor have any sensor or electronic features that could throw a code. all they do is react to pulses from v4 mode to muffle them so v4 mode is smoother sounding. without them v4 mode sounds obvious (to those within the car)

you can remove them just fine if you want. but straight pipe and the lgx make for a poor sound and horrible quality of life driving for any amount of time but it's your car.

Can confirm about the spring valves not throwing codes. Mine started making noise like yours and I had them cut out without issue. I do have AFM tuned out so I don’t need them anyways.

I want cut cut mine out but was going to (steel) zip tie them temporarily to make sure there wernt any noticeable issues. Is there a certain way to do it properly to make sure they remain fully open?
