Comments on rented Corvette (vs Camaro)

I'm a proud owner of a 2018 Hot Wheels 2SS fully loaded Camaro. Factory ordered - even got the "glowtie" lol. Love the car !

It's a long story but I was able to get a rental 2016 Corvette for a couple of weeks while my car was having some work done (nothing to do with GM). Some effin idiot dinged my fender in a parking lot (and took off) so had to get some minor work done to correct it.

The Vette was a 2LT with the Z51 package - automatic. Just a few comments vs the Vette vs Camaro which I thought the forum may find interesting....

Style - really loved the Vette. Got lots of comments on it although I can say the same with the Camaro especially with the orange colour.

Fun to drive - big time ! The "sport" exhaust setting seems a little louder to me on the Vette.

Visibility - while not the best, I would say it's a bit better than the Camaro - especially while looking forward. More expansive view - you don't seem to sit as low within the car's cockpit as the Camaro.

Instruments - I prefer the Camaro. They seemed somewhat "older" in Vette which I guess it is. While they were fine, they didn't seem as "slick" as the Camaro - ie. temp, oil pressure etc. The HUD was dimmer and not as good as formats vs Camaro. Strangely the Vette lacked the "beep" parking assist and there was NO blind spot warnings on the side mirrors like the Camaro. Odd for an expensive car.

Comfort - mixed. The Vette seemed to have a smoother, less harsh ride than the Camaro. Perhaps different tires are responsible. Others who rode in both agreed. Passengers with longer legs complained about lack of leg room on passenger side. It was tighter overall. Camaro obviously a lot more room overall. While the hatch was a good size, I still prefer a trunk to keep all the "junk" separate and not rolling around in the back while I drive. Also, for long trips, the Vette seats have very limited recline angle.

Performance - specs agree and I concur by the "seat of the pants" feel the Vette is a bit faster (lighter car). Actually had to be cautious not to break the tail end loose unintentionally.

Noise - the Vette had a bit of a rough idle vs Camaro. I googled it and it is typical. I didn't mind it but the Camaro was smoother. Also, apparently due to the dry sump format you often heard a "gurgling water" like sound frequently from the engine.

Gas mileage - surprisingly good. I easily got 30 mpg plus highway (Canadian gallons). Camaro isn't broken in yet so can't really compare.

Roof - it had the transparent roof which was cool. However, on sunny days it was warmer and more concerning a bit of glare. Hard to say if I would tolerate that long term for the transparent cool factor.

Would I trade my Camaro for it ? Tough choice but especially once the novelty wore off, I think I prefer my Camaro. Both are stunning designs, almost same performance but MUCH more practical - who would have thought one would describe a Camaro as practical lol - and roomy with better design and instrumentation features. For example, even the custom interior LED lighting - missing from Vette.

I suppose the ultimate solution is to own both lol. Maybe some day......

Most importantly, to me, how about the handling?

I rented a Vette at Hertz awhile back before I got my Camaro. I think it actually convinced me to get the Camaro because the LT1 pulls hard! I had a C6 Z06 before and thought maybe i would be dissapointed with the LT1.

Yea no.. The engine rocks.

I think the Vette LCD display is better than the Camaro. I wish we could have a Tach display in the center. Guess we dont need it since there is an analog tach right there though.

One thing I hated in the Vette was the automatic transmission. To me, it seemed like it was "on" or "off" .. To accelerate even a little, you have to MASH the throttle to make it downshift... but then it takes off like a rocketship.

I was amazed at how much I preffered the old 7 spd auto in my Infiniti Q50. That car just "glides" away when you get on the throttle.

Handling was excellent ! Likely a bit more responsive vs Camaro due to lighter weight of the Vette.

I've owned 2 C7's (Z51), and 2 1LE's (SS and ZL1).

Here is my order of ultimate car ownership (for me).

1) ZR1
2) Z06 Z07
3) ZL1 1LE
4) C7 GS
5) C7 Z51
6) SS 1LE
7) C7 Stingray base (non Z51)
...
...
...
1,000,000) 1986 Yugo

A few notes. My list above is about MOSTLY performance (because that is #1 on my list), but does take into account my personal preferences as well. The C7 is lighter, feels nimble, has SMC body (door dingers beware), and the top comes off. The Camaro feels more planted (in 1LE trim anyway), has a better electronics feel (almost a 1/2 generation newer), costs WAY less, and looks angry (that ZL1 1LE looks like it wants to explode out of the garage).

I really like both cars and am 100% happy with either, but this ZL1 1LE is just insane. I can't justify the price of the next level up (Z06), but feel like I have that level of car anyway.

I can't argue that list. GT350R would be there on my list too if Ford didn't allow their dealers to be criminals and charge $20k+ over sticker. Not ever happening!

I swapped cars with a buddy. I got his 2018 C7 GS and he got my 2020 SS1LE. By the end of the afternoon I couldn’t wait to get back in the Camaro. While the GS was a fun ride the A8 sucked and I wasn’t blown away with anything on the Vette. It was quick and obviously handled extremely well. My M6 1LE is just way more fun to drive.

Arpad, look at my quoted text from my previous post. The person on my quoted text posted on this 4 year old thread and I sarcastically made the person aware of it. The person realized and deleted the post. Can't say that I really understand your comment this time around though.

Chat bots are being developed and trained on data sets scraped from public forums, then used to post replies to see how plausible their comments are and how much people are willing to interact with them. I had a hunch this might be one of those, and I'll gladly eat my words if I was mistaken and jumped the gun (the fewer bots, the happier we will be here, but that's really off topic).

Here's my opinion of the Vette. Assholes at GM still haven't made one I fit in.... Frustrating, but if u do it's a badass ride

I owned a C7 Grandsport with the M7. The C7 is a bit sharper and lighter than my ZL1 but I still prefer the ZL1.
