Ok so I'm of the opinion that 3R tires get an unfairly bad rap as a street tire, even when only for warm/dry weather and spirited canyon driving.

That said it's totally true they don't last very long I've right around 4500 miles, and might hit close to 5000 by the time I get around to changing them, but yeah they're right at the wear mark right now.

Thankfully bonus time is right around the corner, so hopefully my wife forgives me and that expense just "disappears" in the financial noise

The stock Goodyears get complaints about their "bad" grip from the owners who just drive around town and those that only drag or roll race their cars.

The amount of hate for these tires on a ZL1 Facebook group I'm on gets crazy at times. I always try to point out what the car and tires were meant for. Since it makes no sense to buy a ZL1 1LE to only drag race it. But to each their own....

Best DOT approved track tire available in my opinion. Other than slicks, there is no replacement for them on the track.

I've said here many times that they are the most dangerous tire I've ever driven on the street, but they are great after you get them warmed up, even at the strip. Mine lasted 2500 miles.

Once warmed up - there is no equal to the GY3R on a backroad or on track.

Even the much lauded PS4S falls off at the limit of adhesion on a backroad.

IMO, the SC3R should be relegated for track use in most cases. This isn't because it is a poor street tire (when warm), but rather due to the life and cost. The PS4S is a better financial decision on a street car. Yes, you will sacrifice a bit of grip, but you'll get a lot more life out of them. And I'm not sure you'll notice *too much* of a difference on the street with a PS4S vs. SC3R since you're not (or shouldn't be) pushing to the grip limit on the street. If money is no object and the car is never driven in cold weather or rain, then SC3R is the way to go. Otherwise, I'd say PS4S is the better option.

I don't drive my car much on the street, but I do drive to track events. I have a second set of wheels with PS4S mounted for the trips to the track and occasional street driving. I have the SC3R mounted to the OE wheels which I swap onto the car at the track.

True, of course. Still, I would argue that if being financially wise was my end goal, then I probably would not have purchased a $70k toy sports car to start with

In four years and 15k miles of owning and mostly tracking my ZLE, I've have used up 7-8 sets of SC3R and many other sets of of Pirelli DH and some Hoosiers.

IMO SC3R is the best overall DOT circuit track tire in the world for advanced drivers, and many Porsche, McLaren, GT350 and Corvette owners seem to agree. That being said, SC3R is a very bad street tire and PS4S beats it hands down.

You should not be using and wasting SC3Rs on the street, better and safer street (heat level) performance from several tires I could list, no matter how fast you think you're driving in canyons or wherever you drive on street.

SC3R rubber is too hard at normal/street ambient temps and PSC2, R888R, RE71R, Hoosier etc are much softer at these temps (even Pirelli DH). But after 1 hot lap I'd take the SC3R over all of these, the Pirelli DH is the closest IMO I run these scrubs on 18s.

I go through consumables for the track so quickly that, in my mind, SC3Rs are rubber gold and I'm sacrificing laps by running them on the street.

I recently did a track day (in Texas in 90 degree weather) and the first few laps it was really clear what people complain about. After some heat, these were night and day better than the sc3 I recently had on the car.

I agree 100%, driving SC3R on street makes no sense. If they aren't corded they're still great.

I use my heat-cycled-out Pirelli DH for that on LA streets and canyons and the skidpad at Willow Springs :-)

The other advantage to the PS4S will be improved ride quality. I was really surprised when I switched to the PS4S on my Focus RS, they ride quality was *much* improved. I definitely plan to use them on my ZL1 once I get it. They are the best street tire I’ve ever used.
