The Need For More Speed ... ?
My little ported 1.7 will probably run 9.90s at sea level, but I nevertheless find myself giving sincere consideration to upgrading to this one ...

I see this argument a lot and it makes no sense. Supporting mods for the 1.7L also apply to the 2650. Money spent on supporting mods do not get subtracted from the cost of the 2650. It’s $2k for 1.7L porting vs $7k for 2650. And the ported 1.7L can be sold for $2k. It does not equal money wasted. There is value in the enjoyment of running the ported 1.7L for however long one enjoys it.

I looked at it as a challenge, and it wouldn't be difficult to sell. Not saying I'm going to do the 2650, but it is appealing.

Well it's also the fact that the more boost you put on the 1.7, the more heat and wear you put on it vs the 2650 producing the same power but with less heat and wear.
Plus the 1.7 won't make as much power as the 2650 right? It just depends on the person and what their power goal is. |

I've been offered $3500 for mine, so I look at the base cost as ~$8000 - 3500.

I agree, which is why I did a custom valve train first.

Ok, so if I spent $2k modding my 1.7L and I sell it for $2k where did I throw away money? It’ll actually bring more than $2k Kong X ported. Plus I enjoyed running it for x amount of time.
