An oil pump subjected to normal service and correct viscosity oil should not fail within 250,000 miles - true for the vast majority of manufacturers. Completely unacceptable even if the failure rate is say 2-3%

However, I had my oil pump replaced with the Katech last fall, at the dealer, and it was $3,800 in total. I spent almost that much on an exhaust with installation. I spent $7,000 on PPF and ceramic coating. Changing out the oil pump was 5% of what I paid for the car, so looking at it that way, the new pump does not seem so bad. |

I think he was talking about the ppf and ceramic for 7000 instead of maybe 3000

I'm happy with the work, as the car still looks brand new. I also want to keep the car forever, so it's OK. That's why I changed the oil pump. |

FYI to all whom had an oil pump failure in their ZL1.
2018 ZL1 1LE. Oil pump failure at 6000 miles. Engine replaced under warranty. CONTINUOUS motor problems since with engine using 2X more fuel and melting 3 Left cats, 2 sets of rear valance reflectors, 2 sets of tail lights, 2 sets of exhaust manifold bolts (fell out), et al. All in the next 3500 miles. Car has 9900 miles on it. Dealer says everything's fine. Engaged the legal system. GM offered a settlement since TX lemon law times out after 24 months. Not near enough. Anyone out there engage GM for damages regarding this issue? Thanks, JM

No - it's clearly a stress fracture issue, the metal isn't strong and/or thick enough

Then the theory behind allowing the oil to get to operating temperature is that there’s less stress on the pump related to decreased pressure? If GM manufacturer used substandard materials in the pump, I would expect that to be a failure in workmanship These vehicles should have either a recall or extension of warranty.
