That is my build date as well. 21,000 miles. I run 0W-40 and let the engine warm up to operating temp every time before I drive. The scary thing is I have no idea if or when my pump will fail. I know the percentages are low because the same pump is used on many other models for a number of years. But the number of failures reported here for ZL1s is unsettling to say the least.

i have 35k miles now and i do the exact same, I'm never getting into it before at least 180-200 F and have strictly used 0w-40. i do beat on it afterwards tho it is nerve wracking, i constantly watch oil pressure

Thats the best thing you can do. I was aware of the issue but not losing any sleep over it. Once i saw the low pressure i did an oil change, observed no change and parked the car until the pump got here. Now the katech pump is in and i can go back to enjoying the car.

I did speak to service dept at my local dealer and the guy told me they could check it out but wont do anything unless theres a CEL or warning light. I may drop by today or tomorrow and show them the pump just for the satisfaction of "I told you so"

Definitely agree. I have only ran M1 full synthetic 5w30 @ 5k intervals since I purchased. ALWAYS let the car warm up before driving. Zero track time, but do enjoy the car when I have the road.

Fingers crossed, lol. After a year I just keep an eye on the pressure and not put much thought into it. Still have another year of drivetrain warranty and then extended warranty after that till 75k. Hope I just wasted my money and never need extended warranty for the pump, mainly because I don't want that much downtime with it being a daily.

Getting on the throttle hard when the oil is still cold is almost certainly a contributor to these failures. It's amazing how many people do it (not referring to ZL1 owners, just general observation)

Stock 2018 ZL1 1LE. Oil pump failure at 6300 miles-grenaded engine. Replaced under warranty. New engine fouling left bank cat X 3 in 3K miles. Exhaust heat melted rear valance reflectors/ taillights/emblems X 2. Fuel usage double. Left exhaust manifold bolts fell out twice.

Back to dealer 4 X "everything is OK"-can't find anything wrong.

At 9900 miles, second motor just blew-oil smoke pouring out of both banks.

WTF?

WTF?
The problem is your dealer. Their service techs are clearly not competent enough to do that job properly.

Gotta love they won’t do anything without a CEL.. no lights at all and I’m about to have a valve body replaced in my trans under warranty at 15k

Good thing it wasn't 60001. They covering under warranty? I'm only at 9500 miles but turned 5 yo last week. Expect it to go any day.

Our 2017s should not be affected. Our build dates are before the bad pumps showed up.
