As I had mentioned in the thread about the mini cars, I was watching a segment on the Fox News Channel with Bob Lutz and I thought Bob Lutz summed up the problems with mainstream perception quite accurately after Neil Cavuto asked him why the domestics are not able to offer appealing designs at a price that is competitive with the imports such as Toyota.

He said that 5-10 years ago that was the case with GM and other domestics taking the safe route by designing cars that no one could hate, but that no one loved either. their designers were told to be very conservative in their designs. He went on to tell Cavuto that the problem today is that because of this era, the general perception of the public was that you had less appealing, less reliable, and more expensive domestic cars as opposed to imports, which is not the case at all today.

I thought he really hit the nail on the head here. He went on to say that the reason it is stil like this today is because of all the negative press domestics receive in the media.

So so true.....

Over 102,000 votes now and still 83% for GM.
