Tire insurance

Last Monday, I took my car to the dealer to get the cracking/ticking sound coming from the from wheel on the driver side. I had also notice that my tires use to lose air quite frequently but I could not see any nails. I asked them to check them out anyway.
In conclusion, the found nail on both my rear tires and one in the front. The rears could not be repaired as they were close to the side wall on the inside and the front can be repaired.
My prior 2013 Camaro 2SS 1LE had a nail problem on a regular basis at least once every 4 month and it pissed me off everytime that I had to buy new tires when they could not be fixed. This time, with my 2018, I told myself that I would pay a little bit more for tires and wheels insurance but I would not get caught in a similar situation. And for sure, now I am glad I did. Those tires are not cheap and I am so glad that the insurance covers for two new back tires.

My friends who work in the car business say that the wheel and tire insurance offered at the time of sale is the only one that a customer could actually benefit from.

Most tire shop chains will not repair punctures near the sidewall. I've found some indy shops will, if you sign a waiver that the work isn't warranted. Done it three times, no issues with patch and plug as long as it's at least an inch or two inboard of the side wall. $20 per incident. Worst case it doesn't hold air after a week then I'd replace.

Also, TireRack has a road hazard protection program for all tires through them for up to two years.

I have learned to purchase tire and wheel protection when purchasing a new car. With my Hot Wheels I purchased on 1/12/2019 I added the Zurich tire and wheel insurance for $400.00 covers for five years and maximum of $2500.00. At 1500 miles on the Hot Wheels I picked up a larger staple on the rear. And yesterday with 1700 on the clock, I picked up a screw on the front. Taking it in for replacement Tuesday. So in my case the insurance has paid for for itself.

I dont use road hazard plans but you factor the cost of this one above like $400, and you get two punctures they can def save your skin (wallet). I've bent rims and blown out sidewalls. The dealer provided option just wasn't economically feasible for what they wanted to charge.

I am a little annoyed at the time it takes for the insurance to pay the claim. My tires are replaced but the dealer is waiting for the claim to be paid to release it because it was such a high amount, it has been more than a week already and I am getting a little pissed at the delay. I have a loaner so it is not like I am on foot but I am really not enjoying driving it.
