M6 owners first gear clutch engagement judder
Got 235 miles on mine but every time I let the clutch out from rest in 1st gear it seems a struggle between the engine nearly dying down or too much clutch slippage. When I think I found a happy medium sometimes, it's marred by slight judder; same was not that annoying or difficult in the 2SS.. is it me needing to get used to clutch engagement characteristics or is first gear just too tall or both?
Anyone else have same experience? There is nothing wrong with car and I have been babying it and breaking it slowly so it's not a defect.. Last edited by catdog; 05-07-2017 at 03:03 PM. |

What you describe is exactly how mine behaves. I have been driving sticks for 30 years and I think this is the most difficult one I have had to get a smooth start in 1st gear.

Thank you... Feel the same way, funny how no one ever mentioned this anywhere in my research, also the clutch effort is a little higher than SS... I mean car is a monster, but have to work on smoothness of takeoff |

I had the same problem. Quite a bit different than the C5 Z06 it replaced. In order to avoid stalling out, I started giving it more gas. I am currently at 2k and feel more comfortable with the clutch.

I've read/heard comments like this before. Most of what you're describing is likely due to the super-tall gearing in first, to achieve 60mph without shifting.

Exactly
This is what I believe as well, I've driven other vehicles with tall 1st gears and requires a little more rpms, imo.

It takes time to get used to. It's engagement is a little bit taller than my 2012 was, but I got used to it. Now it feels great.

I don't think there is a problem. When a clutch disc is new, it grabs like something fierce. In the past when I have changed a clutch out, it really takes a little break in period. It will smooth out. My ZL1 did the same thing. Just try different amounts of gas and speed at which you let out the clutch. All is well

I've been driving stick for 40 years. I have stalled my ZL1 several times like a noob due to this. Thought it was me....

I've honestly never experienced what is described here. Almost sounds like mechanical issue.
