People are funny somtimes.

Ok so today driving home I encountered a old lady in a Vw jetta who I merged in front of not cut off cause there was at least 3 to 4 feet in between our cars. I look in the mirror and she is giving me the bird and tries to tailgate me while in stop in go traffic. So she sees a opportunity and gets in the right lane over and is able to pass me then she turns on her blinker to get in front of me and I just shake my head and laugh and let her in cause I know that her one car isn't going to take more time from me getting home. I don't get people sometimes lol.

This was in stop and go traffic not like merging onto the road I was changing lanes, Don't forget I'm in a lil fiat 500, She left more than a whole car space between her and the next car in front of her. I mean I had 3 to 4 feet when I completed the lane change.

Step one in problem resolution:

Identify the cause of the problem

Even in stop and go traffic 3 or 4 feet is still to close

Well that is the norm around here if u don't take it when there is room you will prolly never get let in at all that is how it is in Nova. I had my turn signal on for quite awhile before I saw the space she was leaving. Also I know I could see her Plate in my rearview so it might have been more than 3 or 4 feet but since my car is very short I just guesstimated at that.

Hell up here in Boston that would be a very polite move. Here people just turn into you in stop and go traffic and play chicken see who brakes first and lets the other in front.

OK, the question here is...was this a merge zone, and were you merging like a zipper? Or did you pass a bunch of people on the right, then "cut" in front of this lady?

I have no problems with a person knowing the dimensions of his/her car, and merging if there is space. What I do have a problem with is a-holes that continue to pass on the right until the very end, then try to find a spot to cut in. Also, HOW did you "cut" in front of her. Did you give a turn signal, and slowly move in...or did you quickly force your way in?

I'm wondering if there might be more to this story is all...people usually don't get that pissed if all you do is merge in front of them normally.

Steve...This is a poser to me...

I, like you, get irritated at the people who wait until the last minute to merge. Usually it's because they DO get in line, and it's ahead of ME.

But in fact I think they are doing what should be done...If only people knew how to freakin' MERGE.

Alternate one car from one lane, and then the next car from the other lane. I don't know why this is so hard.

So I, like you (I think,) merge as soon as I can, so I won't have to worry about whether somebody down the line is going to let me in or not.

Then I sit there fuming about the cars that are going by me, and getting in later. That's where I should be...

Especially if they are accelerating and closing the gap.
That gap got short way too quick.
