I noticed for me it works the best when AC is blowing through the footwell vents at a decent fan speed as it pulls the air from there. I try to keep my seats very clean as well. I'd suspect any sort of blockage in those dinky little air holes will block airflow and make it that much more ineffective.

I did a little test for you.
This is on the Fifty edition seats. I believe the central perforated leather area is the same as the other leather seats, but not sure.
I took a piece of copy/printer paper (20 lb.) and tore it to about 5.5 x 6".
Place the paper over the seat bottom in the middle and up against the seat back.
With ventilated seats off, paper lays flat.
On setting with 3 LED's lit, paper edges will raise about 1/4".
Reduce to 2 LED's, and it drops about 1/32". Small amount, but noticeable.
Reduce to 1 LED, and it drops another 1/32".
I repeated the sequence a couple of times and was able to reproduce my results.

put your ear to the seats and you can hear the air coming out.

its not supposed to be blowing like the ac does its just to cool the materials down.
also if you don't clean them they will clog deep down and obviously reduces airflow.

to test just get in the car with the seats hot from the sun then start it, turn the ac off on the vents and power just the vented seats and hop back in and feel the difference.

I'm in south Florida. I love it. Makes a Huge difference to comfort. The cloth seats are nice but leather seats with these ventilator coolers are almost as nice.

The ambient air does need to cool down before you feel the effects, sometimes. At other times, it just works right away. I guess it depends on whether your car was in a shady spot or not, at least here in south Florida
