Paint issues, clear coat / haze problems and rough patches (Update 4/8/16)

I had posted a few details around my clear coat issue, but I have a feeling this is the case with a lot of cars going through the extended QC hold.

First off my car had a nice brown tint to it when it arrived with a coating of dirt all over. Upon its first wash the dirt mostly came off, but the clear coat is showing haze spots and even flat spots all over. After the dealer performed their first cleaning it was clear the clear coast had a lot of issues. They washed and clayes it per their normal procedure.

Even more so the black trim on the rear diffuser has grime build up that looks set into the clear coating.

Overall the car has about 4 dozen marks all over.

The dealer has set an appointment to do a polish to see if it resolves all the problems, but even they think aspects of the car will require possibly a wet sand or even a full clear coat application. Redoing the clear almost scares me at this point.

That looks like contaminants got in the base coat and they just cleared over it. Not sure wet sanding or buffing is going to make that any better. Hopefully it all works out for you.

Wow, that's really bad. I can't believe that made it through QC!

That could have been one of the issues they pulled alot of the first cars. Paint problems.
Not uncommon. Some of the programming for the robots might have been incorrect.

Man that sucks Sledge, hope you'er detailer can work some real magic, but looks like it's going to take more than a detailer to get those fixed.

I had a 2011 GMC Sierra that had tiny brown specks all over it when I picked it up. The dealer sent it to a very reputable body shop. They called it railroad dust that comes off the wheels of the railroad cars during shipping. They were able to get it out, I think they had to wet sand it. They said the had to do this quite often. I don't know if that's the issue for yours or not. Just wanted to put that out there. That's pretty pathetic paint job, wasn't yours delayed or sitting waiting to be shipped for a while?

My black has hazy spots on the front left fender. Mine was long QC hold.

If that is why they pulled it, they did a terrible job fixing it.

That's not rail dust, which can be clay bared off. Looks like some other issue, hard to see in pics. But if the dealer is willing to pay for a wet sanding at a good shop, do it. When done right, wet sanding will make paint look fantastic...

I posted about a similar issue with my white SS and many people on this forum told me it was done at the dealer. The dealer could not fix it, they had to pay a professional detailer who at least made it more tolerable.

Isn't this something that, if you notice it before taking delivery, you can refuse it because of? I realize you can't expect "perfect", but that's just -wrong-.

I'll be looking at my car very closely and if the paint isn't to my liking they can keep it. Simple as that.

Update: Dealer called to have me bring the car in on Tuesday next week. They are giving me a rental car at no cost while they work on it. They stated they would like to clean, clay, and polish the car and if that doesn't resolve it, they will wet sand and polish it.

My dealer has a very very good body and paint shop they run themselves and I used before for other cars and for my paint job on my ZL1 front end swap.

Let's see what happens.
