Sure they could have hit the same downforce numbers with the Z/28 spoiler but would they have met their drag targets? Probably not.

I'm willing to bet they are using this spoiler because it meets the DF numbers they are looking for AND makes the least amount of drag for fuel mileage.

NASCAR used to use a wing like this a few years ago and while it made plenty of downforce, it was also extremely efficient drag wise. Cars were approaching 220 mph at the end of the straights at Michigan and California which NASCAR didn't like. They put the blade back on and it brought the cars back under 210 mph.

They added the middle support to the spoiler because at high speed the original spoiler was shaky. I am not sure if you want to do that, plus you will have a hole to fill.

What are the chances that the LT stock spoiler will be a direct replacement for the SS spoiler?

no chance at all, the ss spoiler had the middle support as an after thought and it created a hole in the deck lid that is not covered by the lt spoiler

160??? Is GM entering the SS in NASCAR?

Who needs 90% of the performance this car offers? We demand capable vehicles and when they deliver in a way some people don't like, suddenly no one needs the capability?

I for one will be changing that as soon as a nice aftermarket alternative is available.
So you spent the same amount of time GM did in the wind tunnel to determine that?

That one also won't work. However you can order that spoiler for the SS but as I have said before on a couple threads, you can only order the car and accessory spoiler together and the dealership has to request a LT deck lid.

As if you know better than the engineers that designed the thing.
No, but I did ask my companies corporate attorney and can tell you 100% that GM can not be held liable for that.

You don't have to be an engineer with expertise with downforce, it's physics. Whatever downforce they claimed they needed could have been obtained with a different shaped spoiler. Very few modern performance cars have wings anymore as there are many ways to get the downforce they want without them. From smaller spoilers, to under car aero.

Believe me, GM has seen on this and other forums all the bitching about that wing. It takes their marketing department five minutes to come up with a reason to tell customers why it's there to satisfy their questioning.

Not looking to argue, as we are all entitled to our opinion, all I am saying is don't believe everything you are told, especially from anybody working for a car company looking to sell cars...

Pretty sure I read that one will not cover the holes left by the SS wing and will only work on LT's?

There are a few people, a very few people, who claim to not like the SS spoiler. A tiny, tiny representative of Camaro owners/fans.

At CamaroFest Al O said that the spoiler is an integral part of the aerodynamics of the car and that it will ship with the three pedestal spoiler. The customer may do whatever they wish with the car after taking delivery.

I personally think it looks great.

"Under car aero"? You can only generate lift doing that, which is the opposite to the intention. If you try to create downforce from underneath the car that means you're creating what Amit to "scoops" that catch air under the car, which could cate downforce but would absolutely destroy coefficient of drag as you create relatively still air pockets under the car and tons of turbulence.

It is not my FAVORITE, but I lean towards function over form. If GM did as much wind-tunnel/Aero testing as weve been told, then Im willing to bet there is a perfectly good reason for the design chosen. So it stays on my SS.
