Skip Shift
SO I have never had the skip shift and remember hearing about it in the 4th gen camaro's and thinking what a hassle it must be. Fast forward to the 6th gen I have now and I do not understand the big deal now. During the break in I shifted through each gear to let the car use the rpms to break in and no lugging. The other question I have is when my car shows skip shift on the dash I can put it into 3rd gear rather than 4th. I found out because when I am barely on the gas I naturally go from 1st to 3rd to 5th then 6th gear. If I am already rolling rather than a dead stop I just use 2nd. To me the natural shifting of the car does not really effect me with the skip shift.
Anyone else notice you do not have to go from 1st to 4th when the shift light on the dash comes on or is this not common? Edit: Maybe another reason for not really bothered by skip shift is I live in Florida flat higher speed roads. In this part of FL anyways. |

The newer skip sift algorithm is much better than what was on the T56 transmissions (4th gen)... that one used to drive me mad. However, I'm still occasionally forced to make a 1-4 during a tight low-speed turn. I put on the eliminator just for that - plus it's like $15 and 15 minutes of your time and you never have to deal with it again.

I DIDN'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH MY 2SS MAKING ME SKIP SHIFT UNTIL IT GOT OVER 1000 MILES ON IT AND NOW IT FORCES YOU TO SHIFT TO 4TH. I TRIED FORCING IT INTO 2ND AND 3RD BUT IT WILL ONLY LET ME GO INTO 4TH. THIS WAS MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH IT SO I'M GOING TO PUT A SKIP SHIFT ELIMATOR ON.

I didn't notice any messages until we got over 100 & some miles (now at 161)
Since new, 6th seems to be the only gear locked out at slow speeds & Reverse (thankfully) when moving. Now we get the message but so far it has NO EFFECT on gear selection. Same with hill-assist--after failing to initialize it--now it's suddenly on-line. Yet the OM states that trying to select a gear other than 4th when in skip-shift mode can cause damage--I'm clueless! |

Thanks for the INFO--now I'm less clueless.
My eyes are 98% outside the car so I rarely see the info messages. Re CAGS-- I bought the Vette "smart fuse" & have a question: What's CGM stand for in the engine fuse box position F47? OM says, "not used" Thanks again, Jeff |

Just so you people know, it locks you out of second, but doesn't "force" you in 4th. If it does catch you, just shift into 3rd.

however, there have been times when it slides me into 4th. its like a little slide is put in place that looks like this 1 ... 3 ... 5 | | | | .\ \ ...\ \ .....\ \ ......| | ......| | 2 ... 4 ... 6 and it just guides you into 4th instead of just letting me shift to 2nd.

But the feature doesn't maintain the lock out for any more than 2 seconds. If your shift is even a little bit delayed, a shift to second or even 3rd is possible. |

Where does one purchase the eliminator from?
Does it trigger a cell when used? And couldn't the feature be turned off with a tuner? |

SLP sells one, I think Gen5DIY sells one, too. No check engine lights in a little under a year. As far as I know, you can shut it off with a tuner. But many don't want to risk a powertrain warranty issue after futsing with the computer. |

I get the 'shift to fourth' message from time to time. More so becuase I am still learning the clutch / accelerator. And it still cool with dirty sandy roads, being overly cautious not to let the power come on to abruptly. At times I do rev to high, When making a turn at an intersection and it comes on.....that sucks when it does.
Oh well, in a couple months when its warm and dry and it comes on and bugs me I will consider bypassing it. I have had a dealer plug in and disable a feature on a car, no trouble or issue. I will check with my dealer if its possible.
