Lansing shutdown extended two weeks

DETROIT — General Motors Co extended production cuts in North America on Wednesday due to a worldwide semiconductor chip shortage that has impacted the auto sector.

The U.S. automaker said its Wentzville, Missouri, assembly plant would be idled during the weeks beginning March 29 and April 5. It will extend down time at its plant in Lansing, Michigan, which has been idled since March 15, by two weeks.

Hard to say what GM will do or how much longer this will last. They may extend the production schedule to consume the 2021 parts in the supply chain before starting on the 2022 models. I imagine we’ll hear something before too long as the 2022 orders were originally scheduled to begin in April.

I would say your country is going in the opposite direction, sad indeed.

And in 2 weeks they will extend it another 2 weeks. This is the trend in our society these days. Unfortunately they cannot tell people the true amount of time from the start so they have to give it to us in smaller doses so everyone doesn't freak out. I would say this halt in production has nothing to do with a shortage and it will probably be indefinitely.

I read above that orders for '22 was scheduled to start in April. When is Camaro production for the new model year typically start? Is it around July?

Final week for 2021 orders is 4/8. Production ends 6/10 for 2021. 2022 starts on 6/14. This is all subject to change as GM could extend 2021 production to catch up with orders that they already have in system. They could also just cancel outstanding 2021 orders and start 2022 on schedule.

Americans aren't willing to pay for that, hence Walmart is the number 1 company in the entire world for sales.

From the Google search (note 7 of the top 10 are oil/energy):

When ranking companies by revenue, technology stocks do not fare as well as when they are ranked by their market value. Behind Walmart in Fortune’s top 10 we find Chinese energy corporations Sinopec, State Grid and China National Petroleum (respectively in second, third and fourth place) along with Royal Dutch Shell (5), Saudi Aramco (6), Volkswagen (7), British Petroleum (8) and Toyota (10).
