Well, it’s getting to be late summer, so you know what that means… it’s time for the annual Griptec pulley order in an effort to find even more power!
I had a chat with Greg Kong (who ported my Whipple) and after seeing my dyno graph he correctly pointed out that my power was no longer dropping off up top. He thinks we can carefully eek the blower speed up a bit. So I ordered up a 2.85” upper (3.00” now) which doesn’t sound drastic, but it will up blower speed by another 900-1000 RPM (~5%). I’m already at the advertised max of 18,000 RPM but with the porting really opening up the snout, I think it’s worth a try. In a perfect world, I’d get back to the dyno and test it back to back against the 3.00” pulley, so I’m hoping I can find time to do that. All in the name of science, of course.

When you have Whipple's entire pulley selection...

Be curious to see if it will flow that 2.65.

To be clear the new pulley is 2.85” as I’m currently running 3.00”.
Last year I did briefly try a 2.65” but it was way too much (sounded insane though lol). I ended up with a massive jump in midrange torque that I didn’t need (and had trouble fueling correctly), I saw no appreciable gain up top, and the IATs got much worse. I took it back off for the 3.00” right away and ran my track times on the 3.00”. So with the blower ported, I figured I’d try to creep it up conservatively. But I still do have that 2.65” on the shelf so you never know…

Yes, I understood that. I was just looking at the last dyno graph and it looks like the power curve shifted right with the porting...which might make the 2.65 useable now? but I would definitely start with the 2.85.

So, I figure if I'm going to push the blower, I should do something about the heat. And the heat soak in the staging lanes is brutal, enough to kill timing at launch regardless of what blower you're running. So I bought a 6 gallon ice tank from Weapon X. So she's going back to the shop for some more time under the knife...

Forgot to post up the final results of my ice tank install here in my build thread. TLDR; if I did it again I would not buy the WX tank. An ice tank that is below the intercooler bricks is a disaster. My shop fabricated a “tower” to eliminate that issue thankfully, makes getting air out of the system a breeze, and makes filling the ice in easier too. They also whipped up a small stainless steel bracket to support the pump, a stainless bracket to steady the drain nozzle, and a nice stainless guide bracket to protect the water lines to where they transition under the drivers side sound deadening panel. Also, not shown, is a hidden switch in the center console allowing me to use the second intercooler pump to inject cold water when I’m ready to go (so my ice doesn’t melt in the staging lanes).

Josh those custom bent stainless lines by the Roto-Fab are golden!

Thank you! My shop LOVES fabricating stuff and they do a great job. Unfortunately I have the invoice to prove it.

Small mod that I finally got around to…nearly 4 years later…
I had bought the OEM fender flare/rock guards prepainted in Arctic Blue Metallic back when I bought the car new. I installed the rear flares just about right away since I upgraded the rear tires to drag radials back then but never got around to installing the front flares. After driving with the wider OEM 1LE wheels up front I was starting to see some small rock chips… the cars color does a decent job of hiding them and they’re easy to touch up, but I now know they’re there. So I finally added the front flares…
