Vibration still there after all upgrades

Well after replacing the entire rear end along with new bolts and nuts, the vibration at speeds over 80mph is still there

I’m convinced it is the DSS aluminum driveshaft as all the research I’ve done points to that. The only part of the rear end not replaced is the actual knuckle assembly. So here is what I’m doing:

I ordered a new carbon fiber DSS driveshaft as it is 1/8 smaller than the aluminum and every amount of clearance matters when you have the Hendrix off-set bushings installed. I have been told by DSS that they have since upgraded their driveshafts as of a month ago to fix issues from before.

Why was I stupid enough to buy from DSS again? Cause I want to compare the two units and it seems that there really isn’t much over a better quality option available from another vendor that I could find.

If the new carbon fiber driveshaft fixes my issue, then I know there is still an issue with my current aluminum one. If it doesn’t fix the issue, then I will start looking for other faulty parts. Either way, I will have a driveshaft for sale soon.

Unfortunately it’s a 6-8 week wait time for it to ship to me. So stay tuned and please feel free to voice your opinion on what else this damn vibration could be.

Thanks!

Just a thought, but If you have already replaced all of those things and are truly convinced it is the driveshaft... Then why not take it to a local driveshaft shop and have them check it out? That is alot cheaper then buying a new carbon fiber one... And if you still have the vibration with the new shaft your gonna be upset that you spent all of that money for no real reason when you could have put that money towards a different upgrade.

If you still have the factory DS, put that back in and see if the vibration goes away.

I’ll be able to sell off the carbon fiber if it still has the issue. The reason I don’t take it to a shop for balance check is that it will void any type of warranty with DSS.

I still have the factory but it’s pretty worn and I’m sure will give me
Issues.

I’m expecting these kinds of suggestions, but I just decided to go overboard and see if this solution works.

dma05, Glad you are doing this and saving me the trouble lol, This will tell me if I am ordering Aluminum or Carbon so please post back. The Factory shaft I don't think would be a fair comparison since it will dampen vibration/NVH quiet a bit so it will mask certain issues.

QA1 had Carbon shafts on the shelf. DId you do Diff mounts the same time as the shaft?

I actually did the driveshaft first before anything else. The vibration was instant. Then I started upgrading the rest to try and fix it, but I think it's just the DSS driveshaft.

Okay please let me know, I wanted an aluminum but I have been leaning towards carbon for this reason, Did DSS say what they updated on their shafts? and is it Aluminum and Carbon they Changed? I spoke with 2 weeks ago and they made no mention of this, they did say the Carbon in general should be a smoother running shaft.

Be interesting to see what you find out. I’m pulling my DSS tomorrow and temporarily put my stock one back in. I’m done with them. I already had done a lot of the same driveline suspension work you have. I didn’t have issues until the driveshaft went in.

First they sent me a driveshaft not to the correct dimensions and made me ship it back to them on my dime. Finally get it back, put it in, and anything above 50mph shook every bolt out of the car. They clearly just cut it and didn’t rebalance it. I was told to clock it, which I did and it helped for a while, but still got vibrations above 100. Now, out of the blue it’s vibrating again above 80.

Screw their warranty, I’m taking it to a shop locally that can do a better job balancing it.

This is why I am nervous about DSS, I know you tend to hear more of the Neg stuff but I have heard quite a few times pretty much the same story as post above.

SAME EXACT THING they did to me. Had me ship it back on my dime so they could cut it cause it was the wrong length. They said they rebalanced it, but I took many “before” pictures before sending it to them. When I got it back, there was no change in the counterweights they had on it. Seems to me they didn’t rebalance it like they said they did.

Why can’t they just make it right and have quality service? Ugh!!

Why would you have to pay for anything when its their mistake, And why would they be to long? You think by now they would have it correct. Also cutting it down would have to throw it out of balance. I would take the aluminum shaft to local place and have it checked.

I also don't think I would have gotten an CF shaft from them without some sort of discount because of this.

DSS is not the only game in town.

After a 9 week wait, the Carbon Fiber driveshaft finally arrived. This is their new 2.0 version that they just introduced.

I uninstalled the aluminum driveshaft today. Hoping to install the new one by Thursday. Will keep you all posted.
