Diff fluid swap this weekend. Helpful tips appreciated

Long overdue. Should of done it last season. Due to driving style and activities it will become a yearly necessity from here on out.

I've done a fair amount of reading on here regarding this but helpful tips are always appreciated.

I did this last weekend. Prepare for putting your car in the air so it's level - diff has flat bottom, so it won't drain completely if you use ramps. Also fill plug is off to the side of the center so it feels like you can't put in enough oil.

But. I did it on the ramps, and then, after few days of thinking "was it enough?" I added while keeping car in more level position. It took a little for the oil to drip out the fill hole. I don't that would have matter, but hey, now I am sure...

I am seriously considering stuff like quick jack after this...

Fantastic investment.

I recently found wheel cribs from race ramp, what do you guys think of that? Seems like a nice middle ground between quick jacks and jack stands.

I have trust issues. That being said I wouldn't put my car on 4 Jack's, let alone 4 of those.

Not to dismiss the quality they appear to have. I could see using them for both fronts or both rears but all 4 creates stability issues. I have wheel dollies I put my car on in the winter. The first 2 aren't hard. But the amount of movement when jacking up tire number 3 and then 4.....The whole chassis is stiff but there is unilateral movement that makes your butt pucker. You have to accommodate during placement for the side to side movement of other tires when they go up or down. That prediction is hard.

Even using my quick jacks is stressful. Finding the right placement is not just a once up and down deal. It's time consuming. I'm not alone in this. She'z 18 and I have had this same discussion as we both have QJ's and grew up near each other. As time goes on you get quicker and the comfort level builds but to some extent there's always concern because safety is never 100% guaranteed.

Front end or Rear end, I could see using the race ramps. But then what's the advantage over jack stands. Same concept. Albeit a bit more stable.

The whole car? My comfort wouldn't allow it but balls come in all shapes and sizes and maybe you got bigger ones than me.

All that being said we might be comparing apples and oranges. QJ meet different needs than race ramps with some overlap.

Ive got jack stands I could place underneath along with using these wheel cribs. I feel these are more forgiving then propping up the car entirely on jack stands.

In your case if you don't trust the QJ 100%(as nobody really should) you could use these wheel cribs in conjunction with that for total overkill, which in regards to safety is just the right amount.

I use the Race Ramp cribs for oil and diff fluid changes. They are very stable. I have the 10” 2 piece cribs. 5” is plenty for the diff fluid change and there’s enough room to do the oil change, but I prefer using the full height for oil changes.

Just to add I lift the front with two jacks first to keep the movements as small as possible and then lift the whole back end with one jack under the aluminum support near the rear diff.

The way it sounds he's replacing the complete diff so I'm with you. With what or is his post really saying the diff fluid?

Good call. Both wouldn't be a bad idea.

I have a couple of videos that might help you, first one is just to show the jack points, and the second video shows the DIFF fluid change (I use a Quickjack + Jackstands). Good luck. I tried to make them to the point w/o any fluff.
