Amusing but frustrating e-mail thread with my dealer

You all may find this amusing. I do, but I find it even more frustrating.

12-10-2021: I ordered a 2022 LT1
01-17-2022: Still 1100 status per Joe. Also GM chat says order hasn't been accepted by GM. Same day I get an e-mail from my dealer....

Dealer: Camaro got picked up...production is in March!

Me: That's good news, but it still shows order status = 1100 with no TPW. It would have to be at least 2000 if it was accepted by GM and at least 3300 to get a TPW.

Dealer: Not sure what your seeing. I reconfirmed with Bill (Sales Mgr). Order is accepted and production date is in March.

Me: I got the 1100 status from a guy on a 6th gen Camaro forum who has access to the GM order system and helps the Camaro community by giving them order statuses. After your most recent e-mail I also went to the Chevrolet web site and used the chat feature and they replied that "Your order has been submitted by your dealer but has not officially been accepted by GM at this time." So I don't know what's going on. Is "BFWXB1" still my order number?

Dealer: Yup, that's the order number, and yes its been picked up and has a production date of March (obviously things can change, but March is the production date). Be careful with these "guys in Camaro forums". What I can tell you is it has been picked up.

Me: Just out of curiosity, what is the order status code you're seeing on your end?

So far I haven't received a reply to my request for the status code they are seeing.

I find it hilarious that everyone here says to not trust your dealer because they don't (usually) know what they're doing....and my dealer says to be careful with these "guys in Camaro forums". Believe me, I trust the good folks here more than the dealer.

I'll update this thread as the saga continues.

Oof. Go in and have him pull it up right in front of you, and look at it together.

I have a feeling someone (likely the Sales Manager) mistyped some shit.

I'd believe Joe in a heartbeat. Had a conversation with him earlier over the phone attempting to order a 1SS 1LE and he gave me straight forward info that he didn't feel good taking the order due to probably not being able to fill it prior to June's model year end date.

Like MightyBobo stated, have him even send you a screenshot of the order status straight from the computer instead of being told this by his sales manager.

Joe IS human as well, though - it's possible that he, himself, mistyped the order or even put in someone else's code and quoted OP in the process.

Long and short, go in and look yourself. I'd be shocked if they had a TPW already though, so I feel they are just guessing.

I'm sure Joe is right since GM chat said the same thing (order not accepted by GM). And I'm sure there isn't a TPW either, since they aren't assigning TPW's in March yet and the dealer didn't give me a date, just "March".

I'm just really curious why they provided me any such information, since it all seems made-up. I would like to think there's an honest mistake in there somewhere.....time will tell.

Oh I am almost certain Joe didn't make a mistake, as well. Just throwing out the possibility is all.

No clue why they are blowing smoke up your ass. Maybe they think you'll pull your preorder and they are rolling the dice to keep you invested...

Only thought I have that could make this all be valid is if the dealer has been talking to their regional rep to push the order and got some kind of verbal info from the regional guy that it will be picked up in the next round and likely built in March...

but, that would all be hearsay and I wouldn't bet on it until Joe or GM Chat confirms or the dealer provides more details. It needs to hit 2000/accepted first and wouldn't get a TPW until 3000 at the very earliest.

Dealers want to keep us happy, but don't seem to understand that blowing smoke up our ass just makes us less happy in the long run when their promises don't come true.

THIS, this is why people get upset.

Don't lie to me. If the car isn't picked up or going to be built anytime soon just tell me that. Telling me what I want to hear then it not coming true makes it worse. Just pushes me away from ever doing business with them again. I know people don't buy cars like we buy groceries but it seems like dealers just worry about this sale and not the next one.

I just got off the phone with the salesman. It's still not clear to me what communication they got whether it was from a regional manager or gm or what, but they've been told the order *will be* picked up for March production which I take to mean that the allocation has been schedule for then.

All that to say, I won't believe it until I see that status change out of 1100.

So we called it right: blowing smoke up your ass based on hearsay.

Clearly, they got word that they are going to get an allocation, and decided to "congratulate" you. And their production/delivery times are pure speculation. How frustrating.

Yeah, the dealers are playing games! Shocking!!! Just found out that my dealer flat out lied about having an allocation. I would understand completely if they didn't. But lying to me about it, just pisses me off. I'm headed over to get my deposit back, I will not spend one more dime at that dealership!!

I am hearing the same thing as the OP. Chevrolet chat said my order was accepted but no TPW had been assigned. I also have checked with Joe a couple of times after receiving that chat status and he is seeing the order at 1100 status. I then contacted the general manager who is also my salesman and he has allocation assigned for a 2SS convertible but the regional rep said it would not be built until March. If you watch Joe's order status thread, very few 2SS and no convertibles seem to move beyond 1100 status. I believe currently no convertibles no matter the model (LT, LT1, 1SS, 2SS) are being built. I have not seen this directly answered on the constraint thread. Just my two cents!

I haven't been following Joe's thread as closely as I was when I was waiting on my build, but... around 4-5 weeks between acceptance (2000 status) and TPW seems about right. For a semi-recent example, my order was formally accepted Sept. 3 and TPW was initially Oct. 4. That ended up being delayed by factory downtime, but seems to an indicator of how far out GM is planning their production.

Watch Joe's thread, and oftentimes the signatures of people who are checking regularly, and see what current TPW's are. That will give you a good idea of what seems reasonable until you can get confirmation from Joe, Chevy Chat, or documented proof from your dealer.
