Drag Racing Chevy Camaro Goes Flying
Everyone knows that there is always a possibility for mishaps when it comes to drag racing. What we don’t get to see too often, however, is that mishap resolving itself before anything bad happens. And that is exactly what happened to Tim Slavens at Georgia Motorsports Park’s Lights Out 12 drag racing event on Wednesday.
Slavens’ car, a 1969 Chevy Camaro, is said to be pushing around 3,500 hp (3,549 PS / 2,610 kW) from a fully built V8 engine with two 102mm turbochargers according to Autobahn. That’s a lot of power, and it allowed Slavens to set the radial tire world record back in 2019. However, with great power comes great responsibility, and on Wednesday’s run that same power resulted in the Camaro’s nose lifting up enough for it to take flight. https://www.carscoops.com/2021/02/dr...f-car-control/ |

I remember this happening and IIRC it was during test session. Glad the driver is ok.

Slavens doesn't own the car.

The chute coming out is probably what saved the car. Not sure if the driver was quick enough to deploy it or if it was triggered by hitting the track on the wheel stand. Respect for getting right back on the horse, though!

I'd need some clean underwear after that one.

Someone needed to change his shorts after that run. There may have been a little skill involved at the end, but most of that was all luck. Dude had an Angel looking out for him that day.

Wow wasn’t expecting to see that. There was lots of air in that ride and would have been much more without that chute. He should have picked up some lotto tickets and stopped by the casino after changing his underwear.

Lights out 12 at South Georgia motorsports park! Some of the baddest small tire 1/8 mile drag racing you will ever see! That and the yellow bullet nationals at Cecil county dragway! Massive mount of $$$ spent on these cars!!! fun to watch! Crazy Fast!!! The class "Radial against the world" has multiple cars running 3.5X in the 1/8 mile at 220MPH!
