26" or 28" tires for drag strip

Getting ready to order tires for the drag strip. Looking for results for 26" vs 28" tires. Thanks

I run the Nitto 555r2s on my Vette and they are about 27.4 inches tall. Just about 1/2 inch taller then the 285-35-19 stock Michelins. I'm NA at this point.

Are we just assuming he’s not stupid enough to drag a manual?

It’s a fbo automatic. Had a 1.69 60ft with some old 26” nitto drag radials last season. Has anyone tried both 26” and 28”?

I havent tested back to back but talking with my friends, lower hp cars will do better with 26 because they dont need the sidewall. Higher hp cars use the 28 because of the sidewall. where that hp line is... anyones guess.

I'm about 450 rwhp on my C7 and went to the track yesterday and ran 11.12@125 w/1.61 60 ft. NA with just E85, long tubes and catless. The 305-35-19 I run is 27.4, the 26 is too short, basically no sidewall and shorter then your stock Vette rear tire.

fwiw - i put a 26" mt et street r on my bolt on 1LE today, rears only. still waiting on the fronts. granted im a m6 camaro...it made a huge difference. id guess the car is sitting around 490 whp. it rips and has no traction issues on the street in 60* weather with 28 lbs in them and a light burn out. i am duly impressed. can't wait for the fronts to get here as the car is unstable as hell over 100 with those stock fronts.

i needed the gearing advantage. idk that you do being auto. if you plan on staying under 500 whp id still say go 26 depending on where it hits the stripe gearing wise.

edit: i used the log timer in hpt to get some rough numbers. it went 55-125 in 7.65. first time no lifting with the hurst and i ran into the limiter on 2 and 3. disappointing that the 275/40/17 racestar w mt is only 8 lb lighter than the stock rear wheel/tire combo.

I ordered a set of 315/35r17 Hoosiers. Decided on the 26" because I had good luck with the Nittos I tried (1.69 60ft) and I want the gearing advantage. If they don't hook I'll order 28".

i don't think you'll be disappointed. there are bolt on cars deep in the 10s on a 26" tire.

I went with an m&h 275 28" and immediately broke driveshaft. I wanted to go with the 26" for a gearing advantage but wanted the traction. I think a little slip would not have been a bad thing since i had a stock driveshaft.
