Launch technique for m6 ss?

Hey guys and girls

So what's the best way to launch these things? Please describe your technique. Thanks! Bone stock car including tires.

Just my personal preference... sport mode on dash and set suspension to tour mode through infotainment settings.. I feel like it squats a lil better and hooks more..... other then that, I rev at 3500-4000 depending on conditions (rough, smooth, hot, cold surface) smoothly but semi quickly letting off clutch while at same time trying to manage slip but get to wot as quick as possible

Stock tires - suspension locked to tour. Track setting because you want the slower throttle map to help pedal the car out.
If it’s a slipnslide u have to slip the clutch from 1800 rpm and lay into it like there’s an egg under the gas pedal. Then soft clutch into second, otherwise you’ll tach it on the shift too. Power shift third and fourth is usually ok.

On a sticky - track mode everything, hit the tire hard...get a tire

So would I lower rear tire pressure?

Here's my approach on my '17 SS manual (100% stock except for Hurst shifter, original 13k mile tires):
  • Lower the rear tire pressure to 26psi once you get to the track (GM's recommendation in performance supplement)
  • Sport Mode (I'm used to the throttle response in Sport)
  • Double click traction control to put system in "Competitive Mode" which turns off TC but leaves some level of stability control in place
  • Drive around water box if possible, back up close to it, and do a short burnout just to get debris off the tires and heat them up slightly. Nothing crazy here for the burnout - just a couple seconds.
  • Pull up to lights slowly and once you trip the 2nd light, stop immediately
  • Rev to 4000 RPM (lower this depending on surface conditions)
  • Release clutch smoothly and relatively quickly while increasing accelerator pedal to manage (minimize) wheel spin. Don't let engine speed bog lower than 3000rpm during this exercise if possible
  • 100% pedal as quickly as possible based on traction
  • No lift shift every gear. I think I start the 1-2 shift around ~6300rpm since that one comes quick, but the others are executed closer to 6450rpm or so.

Using this procedure, my best 60' has been around ~1.9s and best 1/4 mile time is 12.28s at 115.5mph.

Here's a video of that pass (my mic was messed up for some reason!):

Man respect! You and vtirocz have this down to a science. So much to learn.

I'm curious if anyone uses the Launch Control feature at the strip.
My tuner got rid of it on my car because it messes with the timing

Wait 6 speeds have launch control? How do you activate it?

I have and it's not very good at the drag strip. On a normal street surface, I've found it can be pretty good, but on a prepped surface I can do a much better job myself.

Yes, they do. Put it in Sport or Track mode. Click the traction control button twice to put the system in "competitive mode." Then, any time your stopped, in first gear with the clutch in, you can put the accelerator pedal to 100% and engine speed will go to ~4500 RPM, let the clutch out and the system will try to manage wheel spin.

Like mentioned above, it hasn't worked well at the track. It either bogs or spins too much and kills the run. I never use it anymore since my method described in the post above is consistently better. Try it out for yourself though - maybe you'll have better luck with it than I did.

With that said, I've found it to be really good (in some cases) on a normal street surface.

my best time N/A was 11.9 at track. on the street i used a draggy and the factory launch control and went 12.0. It is definately not consistent though. mostly bogs
