SHORT WINDOW AND FIRE

I bought my 1LE to track as I have all my sports cars.Last night i tried to put my helmet through the window opening and it would not go.If my helmet will not fit sure as hell my 220 pound body will not fit either. This kind of has me scared in case of fire and door will not open.

Are you attempting to assert the Camaro is unique in this regard? It's not.

I can remove my helmet in two seconds...if there were a HANS device, definitely not two seconds. This is the first I have heard of a worry about this "issue".

Yeah, i didn't think it was an issue at first and it made me feel snug and in a cocoon-like when driving camaro but with time it's starting to feel claustrophobic and difficult to get into and out of in tight spots like garage and when parked next ot other cars... the windows are small, cant even reach out enough to swipe card at garage or car wash without opening door with my 5'8" height/arms. Ergonomically challenging...

I’ll tell you what I hate....you can’t really rest your arm on/out the window sill while cruising with the windows down. I’m 6’2” and my arm would point up at a 45* angle. Really grinds my gears lmao.

Good thing I got the sunroof. LOL!! Yea in case of a fire and the doors don't open you're screwed...but you could climb in the back, lower the rear seats, pull the trunk latch, and then climb out the trunk. If the fire is in front of you then you're ok. If it is behind you then you might get a bit crispy. But I do think there are safety features built into the car so that it will not lock you in. Even when the car is in motion you can open the door so I'm not sure what could happen to trigger it to lock and not open.

Damage significant enough to jam the door or doors shut. With that said, I hope the firewalls are thick enough to resist the heat for a minute while first responders can get on the scene with an extinguisher at a track.

In that case they'll pop the front windshield out and extract you.

If your that concerned you could carry a window breaching tool with you where you could pop the window out yourself.

I wouldn't worry too much as I haven't see too many ZL1's catch fire with injuries.

If you can't fit through a car window you have other problems.

This is actually interesting. I'm going to a track rental tomorrow, a whole bunch of cars are gonna be there from Hellcats, ZL1's, Corvettes, Mustangs, old and new. Maybe I'll perform "The Helmet Test" to see which cars have windows tall enough to fit a racing helmet through.
