Tires defect?
Hello,
Yes, I know there´s a forum for tires but the General has more visits, so please until a mod moves the thread tell me what do you think about these tires (Sorry, no idea about to embed the video). It´s an EU Camaro V8 2017 with 10497 kms in the odo, 6300 miles aprox. No burnouts, no drifting... Thank you.

I first thought of some junk you may have run over, but never seen anything like this where it's only the rear tires.

Looks like you ran over debris in the road.

+1, you must have hit something on the road, and relative to your car, it was in a diagonal direction of travel. This would also explain why only the rear wheels are affected. Looks like something sliced across both maybe when changing lanes?
All you can do is file a road hazard claim on the tires if you have this. I can't see this being covered under warranty.

Interesting that it's both rear wheels. It looks like the wheels went over something sharp and spun. I don't think this would happen from just rolling over something.
The only time I've seen this was on my Z-24 front tire (front wheel drive) and it was caused by a throttle happy driver unloading my new car from the trailer and shredding the tire on a damaged ramp. In my case, it was only one wheel since there was no limited slip differential on that car. Needless to say, the dealer had to replace the tire at his expense. Is it possible that this damage went unnoticed for a long time? |

I sold tires for a couple of years while in college and can honestly say that I've never seen this before. One thing that I know is that if you complain enough about a "ride disturbance," tire manufacturers will discount you into a replacement. They don't mind selling more units at a discount if that's what it takes to get you to replace them sooner than they need to be. Discount tire has "traded in" tires for me before and discounted the replacements based on a proration. Good luck.

Been in the automotive business a long time, sat through many classes that delved into every aspect of tire construction and that looks like the diagonal seam where the outermost layer of rubber is overlapped and bonded. A tire starts out as a more or less flat cylinder built up in layers and put in a mold. Only when heat and pressure are applied to the mold does this cylinder of rubber, fabric and steel assume the shape of a tire, all of the overlapping seams are still there. The staggered fitment on the SS would help explain why only the rear tires are affected. I'm gonna say defect.

You had me all the way to:

I agree that it does look like the bias cut on the carcass material and that's where I was till the 2nd tire showed the same line but only partially and then the aspect of likelihood comes into play...as in it's not likely he would have 2 tires with the same defect. Possible, but I don't think it's the first probability. |

Ah. Understood now. You may be right, it's an oddity either way.

That's damage, not the fault of the tire.

Well with a 10x loop you can probably examine the edges of the "cracks"/"seams" and see if they were molded that way (smooth) or cut (rough).
I'm with velvethammer... it's a defect. |

Thank you all.
No impact or hit was done to the tires, never run over a road debris... that's why I am so concerned. I sent the video to the dealer, waiting answer. Will update soon the thread. Thank you again.
