Question about ordering a 2022

Hello everyone. I am going to order a 2022 ZL1 1LE. I'm in contact with my local dealer and he told me that I can place my order after April 8th. He is being very clear about the fact that he hopes to have an allocation in mid to late May. The timeline works fine for me as I am hoping to take delivery in mid to late August at the earliest (assuming production gets up and running).

I wanted to ask those of you who have ordered cars in the past as I have never done so. Is there anything I need to make sure the dealer gives me at the time of ordering or anything I should ask during the process? I understand the shut down may delay when the order can officially be placed in the system, so that is fine. Just wanted to get some ideas on what to expect when I walk in the dealership. Thanks for you help.

If the ordering is open on the 8th you should be able to sit down with the sales person or manager as he keys it in. Either way, they should give you a print out of all the options for your order so you can check it over. When he gets the allocation, then he can assign your order to it. Its helpful to have a copy of the order guide handy with the options highlighted for reference.

Make sure he doesn't order it as dealer stock as well. That will delay the process.

And make sure they give you the order code (6 characters, mine was ZGJHF3) so you can track it through production in Joe's Order Status thread. He's typically a million times more helpful with that than the dealership people. You can also order through him and have it delivered or fly to Detroit to pick it up and drive it home.

Thanks for the input. The dealer is 5 min from my house. I definitely would have ordered from Joe if this didn’t (doesn’t) work out. But 5 min vs 500 miles makes the choice a little easier.

I’m in the same boat. My dealer told me orders won’t open until July.

With everything going on, I’m not surprised. I’m hoping to place the order and enjoy the wait. I finally can get it dream car and chaos happened! Will just make delivery even more special after waiting.

So I contacted my dealer. They told me to come down sat and place my order. I’m guessing maybe just a preliminary, non official order to lock me in as they want a deposit. I will know for sure on sat. I agree on the special part. This may well be the last time I can buy a ICE vehicle given I plan on keeping this car for a long time. Feels more special to order it and know it’s being built for me. My first time ordering a car. I’m so excited!

For those placing orders for 2022, are you guys already talking money with your dealer? I don’t suppose the actual price list has been released yet, but do you guys agree on something like “MSRP + discounts at the time of delivery”, or (gasp!) “Invoice +/- X%”?

Or are your chancing it and hoping for the best, come delivery time? With current situation, I’d fear putting in an open-ended order, only to be told at delivery time that the car has a $10k markup because, hey, ZLE are hard to come by

This is exactly how I feel! I plan to have this car for a long time as well. My dealer also said the same thing, to come down, put the order in so the second they get their allocation, he will be ready to go. I'm heading to the dealer next week.

My dealer said from the day that I contacted him that he is selling ordered ZL1 camaros and C8 corvettes for MSRP minus all gm discounts. It is in writing (which doesn't mean much with a dealer) but this is what I'm expecting. I'm sure there are better deals out there but a dealer that is literally 5 minutes from my house and to get the exact car I want, I'm ok with this. Especially since it is possible dealers could mark up the cars with everything going on.

Ordering a car is great fun, and the waiting makes the final delivery that much more special. I would absolutely agree on the final price before your order, because otherwise the dealer can give you the shaft when your car arrives and he knows you want it bad.

You don't actually have to go into the dealer to order or place a deposit. You can build your car the way you want it on the Chevy website, then email it to your Chevy sales person and that will contain all the build options. That's what I did when I ordered my '21 ZL1. I actually didn't meet my salesman in person until the day of delivery. But I texted and talked to him many times during the 3 month process. I got lucky and took delivery two weeks ago - so the delays didn't affect me (thank goodness).

Get pricing in writing (i.e., msrp minus GM incentives), or whatever you can manage to negotiate right now. I was able to negotiate a dealer discount plus GM incentives (incentives were $2k at the time of delivery).

Thanks guys. I'd be interested to hear if anyone is able to secure in writing any decent discounts and, if so, what dealer that was with

I'm in the SF bay area, and I don't suspect local dealers over here will be as willing to offer anything, given there's still a lot of money around haha. So I'd be willing to travel some, or even have the car shipped.
