Even for $25K you would still probably have at least another $5K wrapped up to get it as close to perfect as it will ever be. To have $30K wrapped up in a Salvage title car when you can get a clean title for high $30k's does not make sense. Personally I felt if you could get out the door completely repaired for around $25K then this may be worth it for someone who is not interested in resale value.
Again, Hawks is just hoping to find an uneducated consumer to take advantage of...

I'm not going to stick up for Hawks because I personally don't know them. I am however going to stick up for business' in general... This car sold for 23k at IAAI, that means that dealer buyer fee's would be at least $830. Then they would have to ship it from CA to SC for another $1,500 give or take. Hawks has around 25k into it before they even started to fix anything. This is the normal price range that these cars pull at most salvage auctions...
While I do think a lot of the cars/parts I see them sell are overpriced,
I don't think anyone goes into business to lose money...

Looks like another made the list, seems like there are as many being stripped as crashed at this point?

Great. Another stripped Z/28 in the Bay Area. Anybody know what's behind that area under the cut's in the front bumper? What is being disabled?

Its how they disarm it, you will it often on most stripped vehicles. Someone posted a video a while back.

Its crazy how fast they steal them. Sad actually

Better be glad its not Texas.

From what I heard, that is where the harness is for the horn which they cut disabling the horn. They pop the hood switch the ECU and drive off in 30secs. There is a few more steps but that is the basics. Friend in law enforcement said in the San Fran area, they have a truck with an large enclosed trailer, drive the car into it, drive around while they strip it, then pull up somewhere and dump the carcass. Car never comes out of the trailer until they are done with it. No shop to locate and they can change trucks and trailers as needed.

Who the hell are they selling these parts to? This is a small community and these parts are pretty specific.

Exactly. Disable the alarm, pop the hood and swap the ECU with a disarmed ECU. Takes about 45 seconds. Even if the owner wakes up to the sound of their car starting, its gone before they even get out of their bed.

Dead list is at 51 now :(

What if you put a lock on the hood popper some how. Would this slow them down enough for them to give up? Just a thought.

If you find yourself parking in a neighborhood that seems unfavorable, there is a couple of relays you could pull that would disable the car. Takes 2 seconds. Unless, like some others, they hook up to it and pull it out. In which case, nothing you do will help.

Dan,if you look at these after the fact you can see what they are after-driveline/suspension/Recaro's.. look how hard it its to find a GM wicker. There aren't a lot of them to begin with and some of the parts are discontinued. DSSV's and LS7's are big bucks, would think the sum of above bring several thousand dollars on the black market, many parts don't have serial #s.

Suffice to say these are not cars you purchase to leave outside at night..
