When to Change Manual Trans Fluid

Hello everyone,

I drive a 2018 1SS 1LE. The car has just over 1,500 miles so I'm going to have the first oil change done tomorrow. I'm also having the differential fluid changed (the dealer seemed surprised by this?). I also considered having the manual transmission fluid changed but wasn't sure it was necessary.

When should the manual trans fluid be changed for the first time?

Also, if you use it on the track, it's after every 15 hrs of track time per the 2018 owners manual page 199.

Son of a B****.

Isn't that interesting.

The 2017 Manual has NO SERVICE INTERVAL for the Manual.

The 2018 says after every 15 hours of track time.

Good thing I have been changing mine at the end of every 'track season'.

Good catch.

that's a can of worms that you'll get everyones opinion with. but in mine, was Royal purple.
most people here deal with:
1) factory AC delco
2) Royal Purple
3) Amsoil
4) a few other odd balls

Have to be careful with Tremec transmissions - they recommend using ATF, but non-synthetic Dex3 spec, not full synthetic ATF. Most synthetic ATFs have detergents (anything Dex4 approved has detergents in it - it was required to be Dex4 approved), and the detergents can cause swelling of of the composite components which will lead to fast wear of the shift forks.

Royal Purple has a product called Syncromax - which is a full synthetic lube for manual transmissions & transfer cases but it does not have the detergents in it. I've had it in my car for about 1500 miles (put it in at 1500 miles on the odometer) and to me, it is significantly smoother shifting than with the factory fluid. It is much thinner than the OEM stuff. Its not cheap (about $17qt - you need 4 quarts), however many on the forums are using it.

Several are also using RedLine D4 with good luck also.

Just steer clear of anything Dex4 approved.

yeah, Syncromax (which is GM compatable safe) is what I used. noticed a difference myself.

Redline D4.

It's OEM approved for TR6060 and TR6070.

I have swapped my manual trans fluid, at the first oil change(1500-2k miles) on the last 4 new M6 equipped cars. I wanted to get the metal shavings out of the trans after some break in miles. Always seems to improve shift quality too.

So far I am using the stock delco fluid to retain warranty.

+1 on Redline D4. Been using it for years in my MT cars. Yet to swap it in the 1LE, but when the time comes it will be D4.

I just did my 1LE yesterday at 1650 miles with Royal Purple Syncromax, my main motivation was to get any break-in crap out. That said it did make a difference in shifting, much less gear feel, very pleased with the results.

I just changed my rear diff and M6 trans fluid last night. used the recommended GM fluid for the diff and Redline D4 for the trans. Wow what a difference in the trans, super pleased with the results. Took about an hour to do both, on a lift.
