My brother took it to work and an 18-wheeler merged across three lanes smacking him. He’s ok thankfully but cars totaled, letting insurance run its course.

I’m taking a look at the cars market but the SS keeps pulling me back in

For now it’s window shopping to see what I can look at, sticking with something within warranty so 2020-2021+ SS. That original design is timeless but I can’t justify spending $37+ just for the older design, plus that A10 I’ve heard is a beauty

I started looking at 6th gen SS's back in April last year. At first I was looking at the 2016-18, but like you, I kept hearing about the A8 shudder & didn't want to deal with it. So I started looking at 2019+. Because of my specific wish list (Riverside Blue, A10, 2SS, sunroof, mag ride), I was searching nationwide and not finding much even though I was looking EVERY DAY. Mostly due to finances, I wasn't able to seriously look at buying until November. Since I had been looking & window shopping every day for several months, I knew exactly what I wanted. Then one popped up just 2 hours away from me, and I pulled the trigger. Brought it home the day before Thanksgiving! Don't give up on the SS, keep window shopping and narrowing down your preferred options. Once you get everything squared away with insurance & such, you'll know exactly what you want and will be able to pull the trigger when the right car comes along.

If you test drive a 2020+ with the A10, please come back and give us a brutally honest comparison between it and the A8.

The A10 is a very good trans, but I didn't find it any special during my (granted, very limited) time in ZL1s, certainly nothing that would justify the general hype. I find absolutely nothing wrong with my A8 other than the paddle shift delay, but then mine is flushed with the correct fluid and tuned (by Ted Jannetty), never had even a hint of shudder, so maybe that's why,

I had the shudder, flushed the transmission, then had AFM tuned out when it came back a year later. I'm in a similar boat, gonna be hawking the market for anything that's a good price (2SS and MRC would be nice ). From my limited time the last day searching, seems like $40-45k is the dealership norm for 2SS, I'll be looking on the third party for closer to $30 ideally lol

I test-drove a v6 with the A10 and a 2SS with the A10 in the past. I will say the v6 A10 was a world of a difference but that car was brand spanking new. The 2SS A10 I didn't get up to speed but the shifts did feel much better compared to my A8 but maybe mine was just a little more rough. I do want to get some time at highway speeds with the 10L80 as the majority of the time I commute and I'll be living at 65-80mph, I've heard the overdrive gears are overall better there as well.

The downside I noticed of the A10 is the feeling of shorter gears but I'm also used to the 8L45 as my daily, I've been driving my brother's X5 and those gears are really short feeling even though it is an 8-speed (ZF 8HP).

I don't think I'd mind the A8 as much but given the opportunity I'm leaning A10. The refresh took some getting used to but personally the Camaro's I consider neck snappers are ZL1's and something that's pretty modified.

I may or may not be wanting to have some relaxation time as well with lower mileage cars and something in warranty after my last year of issue after issue (small issues but annoying nonetheless) popping up. I'll probably take whatever I buy to at least 100k miles but considering I got the previous one at 61k miles and only got up to 126k miles; I want some more time with the car this time around but hopefully fewer hiccups along the way.

Thanks for the detailed feedback

Honestly, if I were you, I'd go for a 2018 ZL1, replace the oil pump and enjoy its power for a long, long time.

Trust me, it’s been real tempting lol!

But I’m trying to be more budget conscious and cut out any unnecessary expenses lately (the SS I call a splurge ), for the moment I can’t justify spending $20k more then what I’m already looking at

Yeah, just checked and they're at ~$60K, that's a lot of money, even when it's worth it...

That's about right. I paid $42k for mine with 26k miles. Higher miles & different markets can get down to sub-$35k. Private sellers might be closer to $30k, I don't really know because I wasn't looking at that option.

It’s an interesting time, past few days I’ve been making a list based off my filters (2019+, <40k miles, clean title, no accidents) 1SS prices are averaged at $42.6k and 2SS at $42.3k. Sometimes I see a listing and damn, whatever they’re smoking must be nice

(That’s you whoever is trying to sell a 1SS for $60k -.-)
