Too late for this now. This has been suggested many times before. Would have been nice. I think it would have been a $10K 1LE option and the six pot brakes should have been included. So I voted no, $5K not possible.

But if they did this and the option would have been $10+k, this would have been the rarest 5th gen Camaro, maybe worth something some day. Otherwise there are no rare 5th gen Camaros.

But really, you can get LS7 performance with just LS3 boltons. Of course you could have modded the LS7 for more too. You could also build an LS3 for less than 10K that could hang with a modded LS7.

Might not be the most reliable engine.

A good way to make cheap power would be to sell the stock shortblock and get a cammed 41xci engine. Mill the stock heads...

The problem is you would have had a car that costs as much as a ZL1 but wasn't any faster. GM would have had to validate the LS7 in the 1LE and that costs money. Money they wouldn't get back through sales.

LOL.....CAN does not mean WILL.

I really hope if you ever have valve issues(seems rare) that they don't add you to the long list of disappointed customers, and reject your warranty claim.

Maybe if you didn't know what you were doing, but with the right machine work and upgraded parts it would work just fine. And it's not like mine's a daily driver anyway... Texas Speed has the kits and even sells short and long blocks to do the deed if that's more convenient than getting the work done yourself.

Edit: Ah - true that, don't know why I was thinking the stroked kit was a square 4.100x4.100, but that would be a 433 cid. Guess it would be ported LS3 or aftermarket heads in that case!

The Z is rare Camaro, certainly the rarest Gen 5 by virtue of the engine that got this thread started. It's all history now, time will tell but if the gen 6 is not a smashing success, or they don't offer the 1le or Z these will both be collectable having produced only a few k of both JMHO

Not to say your aren't correct on what you are saying... I 100% do agree with you that the Z will be a real collectable one day and it has everything going for it as far as setup, production numbers, and the mere fact that it's the most costliest camaro ever produced but I can't fully agree with you on the 1LE. I understand the 1LE isn't a normal day camaro but you also have to understand that it's not its own car. It's an option to a SS and sure down the road it will be the most sought out of the SS cars but I don't think any way it will be close to what a z/28 will demand as far as desirability. You also have to take into consideration of the zl1 as well. I say down the line the z/28 will be best compared in terms to what a original zl1/copo is in desirability , the zl1 more like the 69 z28's with the 302's and I see the 1LE being like a pace car SS. That's only if cars with combustion engines still exist and you need to take in account the wait of 30+ plus years but who knows rightnow. Our children will one day know though

I think that if you took a 1LE, had the option of an LS7 and requisite driveline upgrades from the factory, beefed up the brakes, cooling, and fixed the heads yourself, in my eyes it would just about be the optimal daily driver/track day car. More relaxed, comfortable, and cheaper than a Z/28, but still being a great high-revving, balanced, naturally aspirated beast.
