No ceramics and not from a reputable brand. BBK has been making headers and other performance parts since I was a kid.

Is that why BBK's ported throttle body is garbage? Because they've been around so long?

"I don't mean to hate on your throttle body choice, but BBK ported throttle bodies have been notorious for the plates sticking."

If BBK can make a bad throttle body, what makes you think their headers also can't have issues?

Here is someone's comment regarding BBK's longtubes: https://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=454361

"From what I have personally seen, BBK fitment is terrible. Steer clear."
"i heard texas speed is good and stainless works. knooks is a step up from both with quality so up to you what u choose. i heard BBK is not so great"
"YOUR car may not have fitment issues, but I have seen them first hand hitting the passenger side frame rail and rubbing against the steering shafts as well on the same car. I know there will always be variances, but from what I have personally seen, you couldn't give me a set of them."

So...looks like EVERY brand can have issues, eh?

I had the same situation as you and if it would had been stainless steel it woud had melted it complety.

Haha, I'd love a Mustang...I'd have a Camaro and a Mustang, not a bad combo.

OP, BBK headers aren’t bad. I had their shorty headers from a previous owner on my car when I bought it and they were nice. I ran them for about 20k before I upgraded to long tubes and sold them to a friend and fellow forum member who ran them for a while before he sold his car. I would recommend getting at least 1 7/8” tubes and not the 1 3/4”. Also, careful if the headers aren’t 304 stainless. It can be inferior metal which may not last and then you’ll pay for the installation twice.

Other BBK products are ok, but I’d definitely stay away from their throttle bodies. They had a run of issues with them for a while there and more often than not when you hear an issue with a throttle body it’s typically BBK.

Good luck with your mods and don’t forget to post some videos!

Thanks! I don’t think they are SS, but I will probably only have the car 5 years maybe. Appreciate the feedback.

There's a write up from "Apex Chase" years ago about headers and the different metals. If you're not planning on keeping the car long and it's not a DD then you'll likely be fine. If it is a DD, Dayton gets a fair amount of salted roads and you could have issues if we have hard winters. Either way you go I'm sure you'll enjoy the added sound and performance.

Definitely not a DD, my family put non SS on a trans am and a corvette and both are rusted to heck. Hooker and Hedman. They both strongly recommend SS so maybe I will lean toward the Stainless Power. Thanks again!

Speed Engineering are $350 (that's with gaskets, connection pipes, and clamps) and use 304 stainless steel...
  • Mandrel Bent Tubing
  • Full 1 7/8" Port Matched Primaries
  • 3" Collector
  • Gains over 25rwhp
  • CNC Machined Flanges
  • Polished Stainless Steel
  • LS3, L99, ZL1, 6.2L Engine

I do like the quality of my speed engineering headers they are solid and well made. I did have to dimple one tube on the passenger side to clear the frame, not everyone has to do this but some do and i was one of them. I bought them, ran them then had them ceramic coated by Jannetty for $300, so i'm all in for $675 and am very pleased. The stock oem manifold gaskets are better than the supplied gaskets, but they work. You have to retorque them after a some mileage though, they are thick and compress after some heat cycles.

Finally got the BBKs and cats on from RDP and they fit AWESOME!!! Had to remove the steering linkage to get the DS in but no big deal. These are a great set for the price. Tuning Sunday...
