Can we get some confirmation on DOT/SAE compliance from Diode Dynamics?
What's printed physically on the sidemarker and what's stated on Diode Dynamics' website seems to contradict each other. "- DOT/SAE compliant output and assembly (red/amber lens)" Why would they specify red and amber only? I was under the impression that to be DOT approved, you need a red reflective marker on the side (of any kind, even via the tail lamps that wrap around as many cars do), and likewise for amber in the front. The smoked & clear do not seem to follow those requirements. |

even though they have DOT and SAE numbers on them they are not reflective. By law they have to be. So i dont know how its legal to have these numbers on them.

The smoked is certainly still reflective, try taking a picture of it at night with your phone's flash. There are two requirements the factory sidemarkers fulfill - illuminating lamp, and reflector. All of the sidemarkers do meet DOT requirements as a sidemarker lamp based on output pattern and illumination, which is why they are still marked as such. However, only the Amber/Red set fulfills the reflex reflector color requirement (amber and red). You would technically need to add amber and red additional reflex reflectors to fulfill all requirements. I apologize for any confusion.
