SS2 1LE...Convertible?

What do you think if Chevy would ever include the 1LE Pkg for the SS convertible?

I would buy it!

That doesn’t seem likely. The eLSD doesn’t fit under the convertible. The 1SS and 2SS convertibles don’t have the extra cooling included with the coupes to save cost and weight.

You could add suspension, wheels, and tires to a convertible to improve handling if you want to have some of the 1LE capability.

1LE is about handling.

Convertible is the opposite of handling. Even if a convertible handles "really well" for being a convertible, they give up rigidity and handling compared to the non-convertible model. They are really at polar opposites of the spectrum.

That was my thinking as well. Back when I drove convertibles rigidity was an issue, as was handling.

Not going to happen imo. Like others have stated there's no point. Zl1 convertible makes sense because of the extra hp, 1le's have no extra power it's all about handling. Buy some 1le wheels for the ss vert and call it a day.

The current Camaro convertible is a fantastic chassis - extremely rigid, it's not like whatever you have driven in the past - even far superior to the BMW E93 chassis which I owned prior to my current 2016 SS vert. It actually handles quite well. And the base 1SS version comes in around 3650lbs which isn't terrible considering.

now - that said - I agree there is no point in offering the 1LE package for a convertible. Really the only difference would be the MRC tuning, sway bars and the tire / wheel package since the eLSD won't fit. Plus some extra coolers which you don't need because you cannot track a convertible anyway. So it adds weight for no good reason to a car that is already heavier than a coupe. And you can easily upgrade the wheels to the 1LE or similar.

So no. Doesn't make sense.

What I'm doing is going to Apex wheels with 295 square set of tires to improve the balance and grip and will most likely compliment that with the GM Performance lowering kit which upgrades springs and shocks and lowers the car .75". That gives you the basic advantages of the 1LE minus the track oriented goodies - coolers, bigger brakes, eLSD, while keeping the weight as low as possible for an already heavy starting point.

Absolutely not. I would loathe the idea. When GM released a convertible version of the ZR1, it literally caused cognitive dissonance. The level of disdain I hold for convertible "performance vehicles" is pretty high. For me, convertibles should be limited to small, feminine cars and not anything that can be even remotely construed as performance oriented.

The #1 absolute deal breaker for a car to me, is a convertible. It doesn't matter how nice the rest of the car is, how well it performs, etc., etc., that convertible top will destroy all appeal to me. Especially in a car touted for it's track excellence.

When I was younger and really into tracking cars I had a similar attitude.
It has changed over the years and especially after owning a few convertibles myself.
Never thought I would be into one but I really enjoy my SS a lot.
I am glad you are not in charge of product marketing at chevy or they wouldn’t have built my car.

But seriously - the very first corvette was only available as a convertible. And many of the sports cars from that era - 50s and 60s were convertible. Not to mention the numerous pace cars - 67/69 convertible etc.

Anyway. I enjoy the heck out of mine regardless if you approve of it or not.

I will say late model convertible corvettes or 911s are not my thing. Don’t think I’d own one of those. But pony car performance convertibles are pretty cool IMO and make me think back to all the sweet muscle cars that came in vert form - mustang, Camaro, challenger, chevelle to name a Few.

I have an SS vert and love it but the 1LE is designed as a track car. You really can't track a vert. Most tracks won't allow them.

Of course not, it's not like GM has *ever* done anything like that simply to capitalize on sales...

These cars are WAY more expensive than a 1LE, of course it makes sense in these scenarios.

Completely Apples to Oranges here.
