RotoFab Dry intake CELs - back to stock

no hate here, just need some help from the friendly forum.

I got a new Rotofab Dry filter, installed (was dead easy) - yes I unhooked the battery, and drove the car a few times and got a CEL P015D and cleared it, it returned.

so I pulled everything, checked all connections and re-installed - same code 2 drive cycles later, one was more than 30 miles.

so this AM, I pulled the intake put the MAF back in the stock one, (disconnected the batt) and reverted to stock - no code.....

What am I doing wrong, as all my searching and google-foo is saying that a stock 2018 ZLE should be able to run a RF Dry without issue. Damn the thing sounded good too...

Thoughts or help/suggestions are appreciated.

Weird. I ran one for a little while (400-miles) with no issue on a completely stock car. Hmm... Check your connections.

Sounds like to me he might have unplugged the MAF sensor but since he reinstalled the stock air intake and no code I wonder. The RF should run without setting a code if installed correctly.

I’ve had an RF dry for over 2 years and 10k miles on stock tune ZLE with no codes ever, and that included over 15 track days and many variations of 91-101 octane fuel.

I think my mechanic who installed used a Snap-On diagnostic tool with similar capabilities to OEM tools to reset relevant settings vs unplugging battery.

You likely have an air leak somewhere with the Rotofab. Check all of the connections including the PCV hoses.

I replaced the clamps that the Rotofab cam with as they were not very good quality and I suspected were leaking. I put some Mishimoto clamps and I have had no more problems.

The clamps that were in with my RF are top quality. I was very surprised. Guess maybe RF updated the clamps at some point in time.

yep

Yes, I moved it over to the Roto, and ensured that it was plugged in and the red clip was locked.

will do - I'll report back

I guess I have an air leak from somewhere, I'll check again this weekend and report back.

Just wanted to make sure I was right and I can run one without issue.

Maybe contact Roto Fab. They may have a suggestion based on their knowledge of their product.

Mine threw a code after being on for 2 years. Couldn't figure it out so took it to my dealer. They found the clamp holding the filter to the tube wasn't on quite straight and was loose. Straightened and tightened it, charged me about $50, no issues for the past 2 years. Clamp may look good but might try loosening it then repositioning and retightening. Probably work fine next time you install it.

The clamps that came stock with mine were not bad but they were not great.

I purchased three Mishimoto constant tension clamps to replace the two on the throttle body and the two for the MAF sensor. Not the right size but this is the kind of clamp: https://www.mishimoto.com/mishimoto-...-clamp-66.html

I do not like standard worm clamps as they do not allow for expansion with heat and cold. The Mishimoto clamps were also wider than the Rotofab clamps so more surface area ensuring a good tight seal.

So reverted to stock - still got the code. Have appt to take it in to dealer and decided to move everything back to stock locations exactly, including the MAF wire to it's original location on the with the little clip on the intake elbow.

I undid the zip tie and moved the wire back, and replugged in the MAF and locked the red clip, didn't bother to start the car or unhook the battery. Went to bed and woke to drive to work this am the the code is gone.

so was the wire pulling on the MAF plug when the motor would move, was a wire pulled out?!?

Wouldn't the car run like SHIT without the MAF?
